New York, NY - The World Wildlife Fund is joining a growing chorus of voices expressing outrage over an ad bearing its symbol that shows dozens of planes bearing down on downtown Manhattan with a tag line that reads, “The Tsunami Killed 100 Times More People Than 9/11.”

The ad was leaked just prior to the anniversary of the attacks of September 11th, with copy that states, “The tsunami killed 100 times more people than 9/11. The planet is brutally powerful. Respect it. Preserve it.”

The WWF says it never approved the ad, issuing a press release to assure critics that it rejected the ad proposal, which was designed by Brazilian design firm, DDB Brasil.

“WWF strongly condemns this offensive and tasteless ad and did not authorize its production or publication,” said a statement issued by the World Wildlife Fund on Tuesday.

“The concept was summarily rejected by WWF and should never have seen the light of day. It is an unauthorized use of our logo and we are aggressively pursuing action to have it removed from websites where it is being currently featured,” the statement said.

Wow, this is bad. In addition to the obvious insensitivity, it makes no sense. As if the tsunami was caused by a lack of sufficient "respect" and "preservation".

Its in bad taste, but does make the truthful point that failure to deal with global warming will bring more disasters and tragedies than all the 9/11's and terrorist actions combined

Oh really now? I challenge you to present even one iota of actual scientific evidence supporting your rather extreme assertion. First, you will have to prove that "global warming" exists. Second, you will have to prove that this "global warming" is the result of human activities. Third, you will have to prove that this "global warming" will cause more disasters and tragedies than "all the 9/11's" (there was more than one?) and terrorist actions combined.

Good luck! Perhaps instead of spewing the leftist propaganda being fed to you, try and think for yourself. We were given brains for that purpose.

P.S. to Post 2. Not to imply that the Tsunami several years ago in Southeast Asia had anything to do with global warming.

Regarding whether man influences global warming: A simple calculation shows that the annual energy man generates equals about 0.01% (that's 1 one-hundredth of one percent) of the annual energy the earth absorbs from the sun.

To say that man influences global morning is ludicrous.

By the way, the ice caps on Mars are also shrinking. As far as I know there are no humans on Mars.

Perhaps the global warming community can settle Mars and then we'll all be happy.

Global warming is a complex topic. Please note, though, that it is not a function of human-made energy but of emissions. The energy released by burning coal, gas, etc. is not as much as the radiant energy that is trapped by the emission gases in the atmosphere (the math is not as simple but it has to do with radiating away a good portion of that other 99.9% of the sun's energy that warms the earth). To say that the accumulated actions of billions of human beings over multiple decades is not a factor is simplistic.
Beware the rhetoric of both sides of this issue. The truth is probably somewhere between "ludicrous" and "the world is doomed."

That the earth has gotten warmer over the past 130 years is an undisputed scientific fact. It is as "proven" as anything in science.

Global warming doesn't exisit!
G-d runs the world and controls the climate.
If G-d forbid there is a tsunami its not because of your use of fossil fuels but because of mans sins and G-d is looking to get peoples attention to change their ways. This is fact as states Rashi.
Now the fact that there is a G-d that runs the world and every little detail of it, may interfere with your life style , but you would do yourself a great big favor if you start to attribute ALL of life to G-ds will and not mans will. If you want to do your part to make the world a better place then learn more Torah and do more mitzvot and acts of kindness. The biggest mitzvah you can do is to work on yor belief in G-d and his dominance and SOLE control of EVERYTHING. Then let G-d take care of his business and you stick to yours.

What if one of those sins is environmental destruction? Protection of HaShem's natural environment is very much a Torah value.

This stupid ad will bring back too many bad memories. 9-11 itself makes him very anxious. Maybe VIN could take off the picture?

G-d creates the world every second, yes. But he also created something that sits in everyone's head. Some use it, some don't. Some use it for their greed and some use it to preserve. G-d gave us a beautiful planet full of resources and the brains to manage it.
But we don't.
He created enough fish in the sea for us and all the fish and animals to feed on them and procreate enough go keep the cycle going. Until greedy humans made ships that are so big and so sophisticated that soon there will be a whole lot of species of fish less in the world.
Hashem created trees to filter out carbon dioxide. But we human's cut down more trees with modern equipment than the earth reproduces, that's why forests in the amazon are shrinking at an alarming rate.
A lot of species of animals in Africa are almost extinct because humans are emptying out the forest.
Hashem gave us the brains to come up with all kinds of ways to transport ourselves around the world, that doesn't mean we have to take the car two blocks to go daven in the morning and pollute the air.
Learning is great and fantastic. But you also have to educate yourself. To say that we cannot destroy this planned only with our sins is nonsense.
I know lots of people who learn a whole day and smoke their lungs out while there at it. Are they not going to get lung cancer?
Hashem gives us options. If we don't choose wisely, we can destroy this planet.

Tsunamis are caused by shifting plates of the earth's crust the water gets pushed upwards and then creates waves that create tsunamis. I has nothing to do with global warming. Global warming doesn't control how the earth crust moves.

Same thing with the environment, silly. It has nothing to do with conservative / liberal and everything to do with hishtadlus.

Global warning is a load of crock. As long as humans lived on this world, they had impacted their environment. Hashem caused the tsunami in Southeast Asia. Some Kabbalists believe that it was Divine retribution on these Asian countries for supporting the Disengagement.

He also told us to tend the planet. But the disturbing thing about all of this is that our Islamic enemies are saying Israel created the tsunami with a huge underwater explosion similar to the one we just set off in the Negev to simulate earthquakes for 'scientific purposes" of course.
It is probably a set up to blame Israel for something.

no contradiction here: Hashem creates everything--but he purposely left an imperfect world allowing us to do "tikun olam". We must respect the natural world; we should not do "tzaar baal chai" (animal cruelty), and not do "bal tashchis" (wastefulness) That being said, I am really not sure about whether global warming is caused by our technology and emissions...(actually, I just read of predictions of a freezing winter coming up!)

What are you 'protecting' it for Charlie. Hashem gave you his beautiful earth and everything in it to USE to serve him and enjoy.
Your reasoning is the same mistake that PETA makes in protecting animals. Yes we cant be cruel to animals BUT they are there for OUR use. To work fields (before machines came around) to carry and to kill to eat and use the furs and skins.

The earth has the same purpose to use its trees, natural minerals, and produce to live and serve Hashem. It's because of YOUR off base thinking that oil is so high. We have so much oil off shore but we never were able to tap into it because the enviormentalist put pressure on Congress in the 70's to ban off shore drilling. If that didnt happen we WOULD NOT be in our fuel crisis today. You 'protection' has deep consequences, primarily on OUR wallets.

Do you really believe everyhting you watch or see.

WHO says it is based on factual data and not just opinions.

The fact of the matter is that this Global warming IS NOT PROVEN, it's an on going debate but the liberals are using the media to brianwash you into hysteria that the world is doomed because you used an aeresol can with CFC's for deoderant or because you took your family on a trip in your SUV and not on bicycles.
It's all just 'theories' and for every 'scientist' that "believes" in these theories(because it is impossible to prove), there are 10 more that say that the earth is just running it's natural cycles (another way of saying G-d's hand).
Did you notice that last winter it was colder than usual and this summer it was NOT as hot as usual. Where is the Global warming. What about all the natural disasters that happened 100 years ago. what were they all caused from. There is no consistancy or proof to these theories at all. All your doing is denying that Hashem Elokainu runs the world.

Are you the president of PETA. your worried about the fish in the sea because of boats? you call that using your head?
Who said trees were JUST to filter out Carbon dioxide. What about paper to print books for education, oh I'm sorry that must also be greed.
Your worried about the person who takes the car 2 blocks to daven?
Your apikorsut is destroying the planet more than any lack of trees.
It is apikorsut because it is not grounded in Torah. It's not grounded in Torah because you dont recognize G-ds will and control. If you dont understand that then you need to learn more of the Torah that you call great and fantastic. it's there to live by not just for fun.
BOTTOM LINE worry more about your belief in G-d and LESS in your histadlut because your histadlut is leading you to deny G-d. Histadlut is needed but means NOTHING if you deny that ultimately it means NOTHING if G-d decrees so.
Yes you have to be careful but dont get carried away with this nonsense (like the comment about driving to shul or the fish in the sea and so on). Nothing will happen to this planet if G-d doesnt will it.
It's ALL based on our merit and that is what the day of judgment Rosh Hashanna is all about and Yom kippur. We worry about our sins and are judge accordingly and not about carbon emmission and the ozone layer.
G-d forbid you liberals next will try to change the Machzor from ...."i sinned forgive me I spoke bad about my fellow, I cheated, to the liberal version" I used to many carbon emmissions forgive me, I drove my car to shul only 2 blocks, I sent merchandise on a real big boat and maybe affected the fish, I bought toilet paper and that came from trees in the Amazon, I bought a book on global warming and that also came from trees in the amazon, I was cold and bought a down blanket and those feathers came from those poor helpless birds.......

your comparing cigarettes to 'global warming'? AGAIN there is no such thing as 'global warming'. first establish that it exists then try to make the comparision to cigarettes.
Smoking is dangerous and we shouldnt and hopefully dont smoke. BUT again, it will only harm you if G-d wills it and that is based on your actions (sins and merits). Therefore we dont tempt fate and we should smoke, unless your someone like the great ztzaddik Rabbi kudouri z'tl that lived till 108 yrs old and smoked ALL the time, or my great aunt that lived till 104 and smoked all the time. We arent on those levels and so we have to act more according to the natural ways. BUT if G-d wants someone to get lung cancer G-d Forbid they dont have to have EVER have been exxposed to cigarettes or any harmful smoke for it to happen. That is the point here.

We try to do our best as yidden follow the normal course of action AS IS KNOWN and rely on Hashems mercy for the rest.
Global warming is not a normal course of action because it is unproven and taken to far just like PETA. I repeat the PETA example because it is exactly what the global warming alarmist are doing.
