Williamsburg, NY - Jolanta Uscilowska, 47, allegedly swiped thousands of dollars in diamond bracelets, diamond earrings, gold chains and rings from a Williamsburg apartment where she worked.

At 1:40 p.m. Thursday, the homeowner, a 29-year-old woman, spotted Uscilowska leaving her bedroom with a plastic bag containing the jewelry in the apartment on Flushing Avenue near Marcy Avenue, police said.

The victim quickly called the Williamsburg Shomrim patrol, a volunteer watchdog group.
A Shomrim patrolman responded and confronted Uscilowska, who allegedly tossed the jewelry at him and pleaded, “I don’t want any problems. I just want to leave.”

The volunteer held her until cops came and busted her for grand larceny.

It is our responsibility to keep jewelry locked up in a safe place. If we allow workers into our homes, our valuables should not be visible to them.
We can lock our closets, alarm our china closets, and prevent theft.
We can be generous to them, paying them enough so that they will not be tempted to steal. But if a worker steals, she can and will steal anything that is not nailed down. And most of the time, these people will never get caught, because the theft is discovered after they have left.

Nu?
How does the goyta have access to the jewelry?
Why is it not locked up and hidden somewhere in the house where the goyta has no idea where it is.
THere are plenty of places to hide things in the house.

I hope u took care about that stolen social security card. You could wake up one day only to find out that you're being charged with millions of dollars in fraud. And that can all be bcz of identity theft. Just be aware!!!

Very Funny Ha ha,
You know why but your just jelous.
can you explain why not? Can you be "dan l'caf Zchus"?
It's the same people that when a mother gets caught up in the system for child abuse you say why is she having babies? why didnt get help if can't manage. if some one could afford help why should they work until they drop.
Maybe you never helped in the house.

Good for Shomrim. Who knows how much these cleaning ladies really steal!
But a bigger question, many mothers trust their children, hopefully priceless, as jewelry can be replaced at a cost.
Isn't everybody more concerned about the welfare of the young children who often remain in the care of these Polish cleaning ladies for hours at a time. Priorities, people.

The same reason you pay for anyone to do a service for you. Ever send your clothes to a dry cleaners? Ever buy a meal at a cafe instead of making it? Women are pulled in many directions. It's much more preferable that she spend more time with her kids, or even have some needed time for herself than scrubbing the floor, which has no long term affect based on who did it.

Maybe we all shouldn't be so judgmental? Have you considered the fact that she may be not well at the moment, be on bed rest for pregnancy concerns, may be working a couple of days of week so that her husband can sit and learn, etc... ? There are so many scenarios one can envision why choose the negative ones?

cleaning ladies help those of us with large families ,who incidentally might also have to work outside the home, spend more time with our families.it's not a mitzvah to make yourself into a an exhausted, nervous, disheveled wreck.

Well lets see if you steal something and you get caught there will also be no mercy directed at you, no ifs or buts you'll be arrested persecuted and sentenced to jail, no one will care if you had a bed hair day or what not.

You really should clean your own house. With these gross generalizations and bigoted remarks, I can't imagine you treating an employee with respect and dignity.

if you pay to have someone clean your house and you have children, besides all the halachic issues that might come up like yichud, kashrus, etc - you are teaching your kids lack of personal responsibility. rather teach that one must themselves clean one's mess and space. better a responsible child than a perfectly clean house.

I'm 38 yrs old, with 3 kids, the youngest is 1 yr old. I work my husband works & can barely make ends meet, yet I have cleaning help. It's been 4 years since we've gone out to eat (Birthdays & Anniversarys included)! No vacations either, but it allows me to get thru my week without feeling like a total schmatta. I am a better mother & wife for it.
