Jerusalem - A chosid he’s not—but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was right at home at a bris whose honored guests included Ashkenazic Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau and several sidelock-sporting Orthodox men.

After all, it was the bris of Netanyahu’s newest grandson, Shmuel, son of his daughter Noa, who became religious along with her husband Danny in recent years.

Though not strictly Orthodox, Netanyahu is known to be respectful of Orthodox tradition. He follows in the footsteps of Israeli leaders like Ariel Sharon who paid reverential homage to Jewish Torah tradition by attending the circumcisions of their grandchildren. Before his devastating stroke, Sharon served as sandek at the bris of his son’s twin boys at his Shikmim Ranch homestead in the country’s south.

The blessings were recited by Rabbi Lau; the sandek honor was conferred upon Prof. Ben-Tzion Netanyahu, the Prime Minister’s father and the baby’s proud great-grandfather. A visibly moved Netanyahu later spoke at the seudah, offering blessings to his daughter and son-in-law for a worthy son, to his father for long life and health, to all the guests and all Jews everywhere for a safe, secure and successful year—and “to myself,” he quipped, “that I have many more grandchildren.”

I think the focus should stay on issues like gilad shalit and not things like prime ministers newborn grandchild. Wish him good luck with real important things

Notice at the start of the video when they are singing, how uncomfortable Netanyahu looks. Like he wishes he could get out of there. I am not surprised. Take a good look.

I guess you don't have grandchildren. Maybe you don't have children yet. One day, when YOUR first grandchild is born, you will understand the joy & importance he or she brings to you.

Mazel tov to the mishpacha...who cares whether or not he is "strictly orthodox". He is the leader of EY and thus warrants the support and best wishes of klal yisroel. Also note that even Rav Lau is comfortable with the mixed seating at the seudat mitzvah after the bris.

What kind of naresh is your comment that only Chassidinm can attend a bris. The large perecentage of misnagdim/litvashe yiddin also have a bris. Even most of the secular and MO yidden have a bris.

Hardly. This time around he remembered the brocho the Rebbe gave him and I hope he continues to remember it. In the past he was a chossid of political expediency.

I don't get your question of course they had the seuda in the sucah and I think your questioning is a totally disrespectful outlook on chief rabbi of Tel aviv rabbi law who attended by the brit event. I

Most of the secular have brissin. 100% of the MO have. I may not agree with everything called MO, but brissin?

For all of those who say that Bibi is no "chossid". And... what was Rehav'am? Menashe? Achav? etc. And yet, they were all LEGITIMATE (even in the eyes of real N'vi'im) rulers and leaders of Yisrael ! You have to recite a b'racha when you meet him.

May this new little Jew grow up to a life of Torah, Chuppa, and Ma'asim Tovim!

What a difference from the Olmert family! Wonderful to see the children shomrei Torah Umitzvos. A Kiddush Hashem. Olmert and other Israeli leaders always try to distance themselves from religion. How nice to see a PM., at least, respectful of Judaism, if not fully observant.
