"I am excited to be running this year's New York City Marathon. In Jerusalem we are focused on returning Jerusalem to its historic role as an international destination site for tourists and pilgrims … . Jerusalem and New York City have a special relationship and I look forward to engaging with our friends in New York city again while here," his office quoted Barkat saying.

Kol hakovod to the mayor. This is a wonderful example to yiddin all over the world and by doing so he does more to advance the image of yiddin living in EY than all the chareidi rabbonim who only seem to make the news when calling for some new demonstration against the mayor's actions. There unfortunately is no international competition for who can throw a dirty diaper the longerst distance or start the most fires in a dumpster in the shortest time--two obvious events where the chareidi would excel.

Ok, well the race itself is on a Sunday . He'll probably leave here Thursday night to arrive Friday AM and then he'll run in untzinusdik clothing alongside women with even less on than he. Marathon's are Greek. They glorify the human body in an idolatrous way. We don't need them to promote tourism to Jewish sites.

And I'm sure you will be out there holding the sign. No one will understand except for a few nutcases like yourself. Any normal Israeli will be sleeping at that hour after driving a cab all night. Any frumme yidden who can read hebrew will be in shul davening.

You are providing a good reason for eveyone to get up early on Sunday and go out to watch the marathon (after shachris of course). This is one of the most highly regarded athletic events of the year and is watched by tens of millions of people around the world. Rather than being proud that the mayor of Yerushalayim, ir hakodesh, is participating you seem embarrassed that a yid is in good physical condition and capable of running such a distance. Do you really believe Meir Porush or any of the Ger leadership could run a marathon?

That's exactly the point. Those people who have prolems with a marathon have never tried to walk!

The police are fully aware that there are fools like "shabos" who might be stupid enough to try to interfere with the mayor during the marathon. If you even try to get near him, you will be cleaning dirty diapers on Rikers Island until next Tisha B'av. While VIN has the smartest readers of any blog, there are always a few percent such as yourself who remind us that yidden can also be challenged.

The residents of W'burg are renowned for offering water and other refreshments to marathon participants. In this case I doubt they'll realize who he is and will go about their usual practice.
