Staten Island, NY - All-In-One Innovative Pizza Box: Four Plates And Leftover Box |
|
Photo Credit: Huffington PostStaten Island, NY - Check out the GreenBox
, the Swiss Army Knife of pizza boxes.
No more jamming a huge cardboard box into the fridge or the lobby recycling: the top of the GreenBox comes off and separates into four plates, and the bottom folds in half and becomes a vessel for leftovers.
“This is revolutionary,” said Dan Richer, owner of Arturo’s Osteria and Pizzeria in Maplewood, N.J., who tried out the 100% recycled GreenBox with fellow pie makers Monday.
“Parents will buy a pizza and take it to the park with their kids and rip it apart for the plates,” he said.
GreenBox is the brainchild of William Walsh, 42, who came up with the idea in college when his friend spilled hot cheese on his shirt.
Walsh ripped off a piece of the box and gave it to the friend to use as a plate. Now, he’s hoping to cash in 20 years after he cooked up the idea.
“It’s only a pizza box, but there are 2.3 billion pizza boxes manufactured in this country each year,” said Walsh.
Walsh patented the idea and has a warehouse full of GreenBoxes at a Staten Island warehouse. He has a few small customers in the New York area and hopes to land a contract with a nationwide chain.
He named it the GreenBox because it’s made of 100% recycled paper and eliminates the need for paper plates.
Walsh insists he can get the price down when more orders start to come in and he can benefit from larger-scale production.

Although I love the idea, I would B'Shita ask for an old fashoined box. I'm sick of the "green movement" pushing thier agenda down everyone's throats!

Nu, now the kosher pizza shops can charge even more for their pizza.

This has to be one of the most brilliant ideas I have ever seen, seriously. It takes a special kind of vision to see the potential for a novel improvement in an ordinary, common, item.

Yeah let's not be innovative just to spite people! Sarcasm.

Shmuel, I do hear your point, but if you were the one trying to put away the leftover pizza you might overcome that aversion.

#1, why would you rather cut down G-d's beautiful trees than recycle what is already cut? Just because you don't like an abstract group of people's tactics?

I really don’t see the “GREENNESS” in this box, but I do see lots of conveniences.
Imagine yourselves before Pesach sitting on the steps feeding your children with this box.
I’m sure this idea will bring similar ideas to other foods or disposable items on the shelves.

Copyright? What has copyright got to do with this? It's an invention, not a work of art!

I think it's a great idea as a novelty, but I'm not so sure how "green" it is.
For structural soundness they are using corrugated cardboard. Regular pizza boxes are single-ply cardboard. They are using 3 times as much cardboard as regular boxes in order to save 4 paper plates. Genius!

Only the cover is being ripped apart so no need for taking out the pie.

Awsome idea !! There is nothing more annoying than trying to throw out bulky pizza boxes - especially with the dept of sanitation agressively prowling our neighborhood to give us tickets.

Recycling doesn't save trees it saves landfill space. Most paper comes from trees planted for paper. In fact the less paper we use THE LESS trees they need to plant!

maybe he should try his luck with Shark Tank. Its an ABC show where people ask for an investment in their company or invention for a % of equity to the investors!
Great Idea! Good Luck!

To Shimon, #8: The idea seems to be a good one, very innovative. As far as the 'green' part - that's another story; it should be an understood by now for anyone who is up to what is really happening in the world today that all this 'green' is just plain bunk - what it is - is an agenda to control everything. Wake up, the world is going one world order and is very scary! The religious community is the most clueless to what's happening, yet we are the most vulnerable of all.

Yes Yes Yes! It's about time someone here stood strong on the pro-pollution bandwagon! Thank you! I was so afraid that I was the only one in favor of building the "new economy" on MORE trash and LESS trees!
Either we pile our countrysides in excess trash... or.... we pay huge amounts of money to Arab nations for fuel to burn it all. All the while destroying more and more of our ecosystem. Either way it is a win-win for America!
Sarcasm was, of course, intended.

#21, how does eating locally grown food, using less electricity, carpooling and reusing things you already own help anyone control anything? I would think that the more people can rely on the resources they and their local community already have the less easily they are controlled.
#14, if they weren't using recycled cardboard, I would agree: most of the time I get pizza I transfer it to my non-disposable dishes anyway (though I don't know how typical that is)
#19 How does recycling paper not save trees? If I cut down one tree and use it for paper, and then I need an additional half-tree worth paper, then I must cut down another (half) tree. If I were able to recycle half of the paper, from the original tree, then I would not need to cut down another tree. (And if half of that recycled paper were recycled, I would end up with a total of 1.75 trees worth of paper from one tree). So how exactly does the fact that some paper comes from trees planted specifically for the purpose of becoming paper change the fact that the more paper is recycled the fewer trees need to be cut down in the first place?
