Jerusalem – During last week’s major civil defense drill charedi kehillos were mobilized to take part in a massive blood drive, according to an article in Maariv of of Israel’s leading daily newspapers.

The exercise was meant to simulate a war on several fronts during which injuries among civilians and military personnel require collecting and delivering a very large number of blood units to hospitals around the country. To meet the need a decision was made to enlist the charedi community and set up a blood donation center in a charedi section of Jerusalem.
Reservists from the IDF’s blood service unit were drafted to take part in the exercise. According to Major Pinni Goldstein, head of medical equipment and blood at Central Command, the drill entailed providing 3,500 units of blood per day, compared to the 1,000 units Magen David Adom collects on a typical day.
“What was nice in this exercise was that for the first time it included the charedi community, including Chassidim from Gur and Neturei Karta taking part in the Central Command exercise. The immediate response of the charedi sector was amazing,” said Goldstein.
The drill was preceded by conversations with top charedi rabbonim and Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman (UTJ), noted Maj. Goldstein.
what a kiddush hashem finally! from a group that normally associates itself with such hate and makes so many chillul hashems its nice to hear a good article about them shkoyach to neturei karta for once!
Why should we be kvelling that the Chareidi have graced us with their participation in these drills. God forbid we should have a disaster, the Chareidi families will be as exposed as poisether yidden to the bombs, biological or radioactive devices etc. They will need blood transfusions, emergency medical care etc. These drills are as much for their owns saftey as for the rest of klal yisroel. Any Rav who objects to the participation of his followers in emergency preparedness training is saying please don’t take of us when the bombs drop. We will sit in the beis medrash saying tehillim and take care of ourselves. Thats fine, the emergency plans of the government should be revised to exclude those chareidim who would obstruct the ability of the government to respond.
Do we really want them to come to the bomb shelters and scream for the women need to get out and go to the varbeshe shelter two blocks away.
I don’t know why everyone is getting exited? Hatzala, zaka, and all the other organizations have ultra orthodox people in them and when there is a disaster they don’t differentiate between the religious and the non religious people they go and help without asking any questions
Since r. Litzman has taken over as MK of Health, the difference that are noted regarding health issues and seriousness of volunteerism in the health sector is unreal. Thank you R. Litzman for raising the bar.
“The Satmar Rebbe a’h during the Yom kippur war told all his chassidim to say tehillim for the people of Israel”
When the rest of our husbands, sons and daughters were quietly getting up during davening on yom kippur, stopping at home to pick up their rifles and heading to war, many never to return, these “brave” Satmar were comfortably sitting in shul saying tehillim. Yes, we should be proud of their mesiras nefesh for the medinah. How can you compare sitting in shul davening with men and women who risk their lives on the battlefront. Maybe that is why there is such polarization in EY among most of the population and these Chareidm who say “you go fight for us while we stay at home and daven for you”.
i dont know why gur and NK are joined together in one sentence.
it’s not a surpise to anyone that knows anything about gur that they would partcipipate in the drill, all gur men than dont learn join the civil serviceand evn get the 40 day basic military training. from all the chassidim gur is definitely the most tziyonish. this article makes no sense.
if artcile would have said satmar & NK partcipated in drill that would make sense.
There are Charedi units in the IDF. When the Gerrer and Satmar put their actual physical bodies at risk by joining those units and defending their fellow Jews I’ll have some respect for them. Until then? It’s just more self-congratulation for deigning to notice the outside world at all.
Gerrer men have always done some sort of service. Not that I support the medine or even believe Yidden should live there at present, but Gur participating in any civil defense efforts is not news.
just a bunch of hatemongers!
we should be looking at other ways to get them to participate with the hope of getting them involved in everything.
instead we are just trying to push them away!
let’s just try being constructive for a change! can’t we just try forgetting of getting even?
why was belz not there they are much biger the gur
