Jerusalem – Toldos Aharon Fumes Over Media Collaboration

    26

The ad placed in newspaperJerusalem – Toldos Aharon took out a large ad on the back page of Ha’Eida, a weekly newspaper published in Jerusalem by the Eida Charedis, to counter a feature report broadcast on Israel’s Channel 10 last week.

“We have no link to the media,” reads the ad. “They are diametrically opposed to everything we stand for. Those individuals who dealt with them appear to be from our community, yet in truth they are not members of our community in the least…Furthermore we have warned that in the future, nobody should dare to speak to them.”

The ad goes on to state, “Our community has no spokesman who can speak on our behalf to the media, neither the secular media nor the half-secular media, neither the charedi media nor the half-charedi media.”

An inside source privately told VIN News Halachic Editor Rabbi Yair Hoffman late Thursday evening that a meeting was held and the decision was made to demonstrate conclusively that there is no official media spokesperson for the Eida Charedi community. Many of the members of the inner circle were incensed at both the actions and statements of some these pretenders.

According to Hebrew website Kikar HaShabbat, Toldos Aharon leaders were particularly disgruntled over the fact the individuals interviewed displayed the community’s conduct guide before the camera lens for the entire country to see. Predictably, Channel 10 highlighted elements from the guide the general public would be likely to deem primitive and bizarre.

Normally the booklet is only given to kehilloh members when they marry, and is kept from the eyes of bochurim and even from charedim who do not belong to Toldos Aharon.

They are right. The media have it wrong. In truth, they love the Medinah, as you can see from their ad here. Why did the media lie and portray them as anti the Medinah?

“An inside source privately told VIN News Halachic Editor Rabbi Yair Hoffman late Thursday evening that a meeting was held and the decision was made to demonstrate conclusively that there is no official media spokesperson for the Eida Charedi community”

That would seem to be what we call a “stira minei u’bei”. If there’s no “official media spokesperson”, then who was the “insider” who spoke to Rabbi Hoffman? What’s the difference between an “insider” and a “spokesperson” who both act to inform the media, in this case being VIN?

And what would be wrong with having an official contact, anyway? By the way, who took out the ad in Ha’Eidah? Isn’t that what others would call a media buy? So, someone had to interact with the Charedi Press (the media) to buy the ad.

Double-talk and silliness like this just makes people on the outside happy that they’re not on the inside.

Why be ashamed of their booklet unless there is something to be ashamed of?
Why hide from the public unless you really do have something to hide?

Predictably, Channel 10 highlighted elements from the guide the general public would be likely to deem primitive and bizarre.

What are these secret “primitive and bizarre” practices that they are so afraid for the public to see. Its got to be somthing more unusual than facing mizrach to bench “asher yatzar” or making a “schechayanu” every time one of the Eida legitimately earns a parnassah.

I have nothing to do with Channel 10 and have never even watched it, but
I have seen and read the instruction booklet they prepare for chasanim. It is indeed primitive and bizarre, and is more appropriate for a dimented cult than for Jews.

Maybe yoilish kraus was that self styled spokesman.
But the eida deserves something much better than him. HE does not present things the way things deserve to be presented.
The eida communities, such as toldos aharon, are so special, holy and pure, that they would not get a PR person unless there was a very good one, and they have no one good enough. I think inho that if they had such a person, they WOULD agree to be represented by him.
BUT, he would have to be someone like reb levi yitzchok of berditchev himself! (and obviously, there is no one like him in this generation).

#1 The Eda is not considered Charedei by the Charedei community. They are a seperate entity, governed by gadoling of their own with their own halachos/hashkafoes/life line.

“Normally the booklet is only given to kehilloh members when they marry, and is kept from the eyes of bochurim and even from charedim who do not belong to Toldos Aharon.” That is simply not true. Toldos Aharon sells these books to the public in the bookstore near their shul. In fact, I own almost all Toldos Aharon books including the ones with their takanos.
