New Jersey - Gov. Jon Corzine this morning cast his ballot at the Elks lodge on Washington Street.

"There you go, folks," Corzine said as he emerged from the voting booth and laughed when asked whom he voted for New Jersey governor.

Just after 9 a.m. independent candidate Chris Daggett showed up at Fellowship Village to cast his vote.

Republican New Jersey governor candidate Chris Christie arrived at the fire house here about 7 a.m., accompanied by his wife and four children.

He entered the polling place, cast his ballot and emerged to address reporters.

"Today is a day for change," Christie said. "I think the public is ready for that."

"Morals" don't pay the bills. The BMG is a very expensive operation and cannot succeed without more state money. Corzine is a chosuveshe mensch and big baal tzadakah. We don't have to agree with him on all issues such as his support for gay civil rights but that doesn't mean we shouldn't follow all the gadolim in Lakewood and vote for him.

It was and effort to find a middle ground between the views expressed by some of the followers of Rav Avigdor Miller, Z;'tl, and Rav Aron Kotler, Z'tl. Alos the Vaad and Harav Shenkolovsky have been the primary representatives of the Lakewood Kehilah for many years and have always made those decisions require considerable shikul hadaas and daas torah that the average Lakewood yid cannot make. They've concluded correctly that Corzines dollars for BMG is a much more important factor than any support he arguably has for the toeiva lifestyle. It is thus assur to vote against Corzine.

Rav Yisroel Nueman seems to disagree with your view and has said so publicly.

With all due respect, Rav Nueman is one very confused yid....if HARAV SHTEINMAN was living here in New Jersey, he would be voting for Corzine for all his contributions to yiddeshe causes. He said it would be a real bushah and chilul hashem to for the Vaad to humiliate the governor by reversing its endorsement, thereby putting the yeshivos in Lakewood at risk.

Shame on you, Rabbi Newman is a Talmid Chacham.

While I have respect for rabonim I don't think you even qualify to call yourself a ben torah at all.

Rav Shtainman himself called back to ask that a letter not be published publicly, however since it was already released he said it would be a chilul hashem to revoke it.

I'm not sure it is in our best interests to publicly endorse any candidate unless he is a clear winner.

Stop with the "shame on you"....Obviously rav newman is a talmid chacham and great tzadik. I was referring to his understanding of the politics of the Vaad's endorsement and how he was "spinning" the comments of Rav Shteinman with respect to the Vaad's endorsement (which I believe he is mininterpreting). That has nothing to do with the Rav's reputation as a great torah scholar. Don't mix religion and politics any more than the Vaad already has.

I believe that for political reasons the vaad needed to show support for corzine, yet they don't actually want the tzibbur to vote for him for aforesaid reasons. In a recorded phone call from shenkolevski , he mentioned by name the importance of voting for the specific candidates, and ha did NOT mention Corzine at all. Possibly he was hinting not to vote for him.

Was there a BMG in SODOM?

If I remember correctly, Avrohom Aveenu said he won't take a penny from Melech Sodom.

I doubt the reliability of your sources.

American Christians have been mixing religion and politics ever since, well, at least since Episcopal Vestryman George Washington ran for the colonial Virginia House of Burgesses!

Well I just got a robocall from heinemann and he clearly did say Corzine so you can scratch my theory in #12. Unless heinemann saw it and quickly sent out the call so that Corzine staffers who are reading the blogs shouldn't think its true ;)
