My friend is a 25 year old male, who received all the immunizations, yet still came down with this strain which is supposedly mumps, the reason I am saying supposedly is, because there are a couple doctors who told him that they suspect it is a different virus with mumps like symptoms

15 to 20% or those vaccinated still have a chance of getting mumps.

Quite so, and that's where the concept of herd immunity comes into play. If everyone is immunized, the virus won't be able to spread at all, and those 15 - 20% may be susceptible to infection but will not be exposed to it. This outbreak is caused by lack of vaccination in the community.

First of all, my brother got the disease FROM THE VACCINE and we almost lost him to it, nisht mer gedacht. If a person contracts the disease from the vaccine then it can usually be a much stronger form of the disease as your body had to create some antibodies against the vaccine and it STILL caught the disease. Therefore, please understand that while the doctor tells you that the percentages are low for contracting the disease from the vaccine, they don't seem so low anymore when it happens to someone you know and you spend six weeks watching him being slowly nursed to health and wondering if he will survive and it's all because he tried to take steps to prevent this in the first place.
The other thing that REALLY bugs me is if you vaccinate your children then why should you care AT ALL if the other children are vaccinated or not. Your child is completely safe in your opinion. I mean, isn't that the point of the vaccine? Therefore, shouldn't the unvaccinated child be the only one in danger here? You either believe in the benefits of the vaccine or you don't. It doesn't work both ways. It is just that people become very uncomfortable and insecure when someone else is taking a stand that they don't quite fully comprehend or agree with. It's a sign of ignorance to be bothered to such an extent that these children aren't vaccinated when it really, as you yourself suggest, it shouldn't be able to penetrate your perfect little world anyway.
Just a thought.

to Two Sides,
The answer is very simple and you just don't get it.
You are basically right.
The herd learned a new term herd immunity and they keep hocking about it. There might be an issue about kids too young to have been vaccinated or not well enough to vaccinate but that is about it.
Having said this please understand, you stepped in a pile of garbage put out by rabid folos that think they know it all, they think that vaccines are absolutely safe. Only a fool would believe that. I believe they are not always safe and a real scientist will talk about statistics, not absolutes.
Many kids lost their father 25 yrs ago when they vaccinated soldiers against the swine flu. To the kids, they lost their father, to scientists it was an unproven abberation, a statistical fluke.

What you are saying is pure unadulterated nonsense and stupidity. Dr. Jonas Salk created the polio vaccine and now no American children have to suffer the horrors of polio. Smallpox used to be a horrific scourge that is now eradicated from the face of the earth. Humans are much stronger and better off for having vaccinations. There is no such thing as "natural immunity", you only get the immunity from exposure to small amounts of the disease. As for your parents, Diptheria and whooping cough are not death sentences; it is possible to survive them. All the crowned heads of Europe had normal childhood diseases before vaccinations, and some died and some lived, just like everyone else.

Huh? How many children didn't survive to adulthood because they got childhood diseases and didn't make it because there were no vaccines. Your logic is wrong. Less people get sick and don't survive than in the last generation. Look at the statistical data.

Whooping cough isn't supposed to be life long immunity as is the MMR. It is given in combination to the tetnus shot which needs a booster every ten years. Until a few years ago they didn't know how to immunize adults against pertusis (whooping cough) the new tetnus shots are DTP or DTAP (diptheria tetnus and Pertusis). For many years they knew that german measels (rubella) immunity can be lost and that is why women are tested to for it before they become pregnant and during their first visit to an ob.
I am impressed that the doctors that people on this website use know more than the health department or the CDC. These agencies are still investigating why the blood work is coming back as being immune and positive for active infections. Which means it is the mumps not something similar. They are also investigating why they got it if they received both MMRS. One theory is that there was something was wrong with the immunizations from a few years so they are looking into the manufactureres and lot numbers of the vaccines that weren't effective. Of course this will make the anti vaccine people more anti vaccine but I prefer info that is based on solid research than hersey.

I'm a real scientist and I talk statistics. In fact, I have a PhD in biostatistics. Vaccines for childhood diseases result in severe adverse events very very rarely. But the diseases themselves results in severe illness, often lifelong complications, and for some, death. Check the CDC web site for details (I have to go prepare for Shabat or I'd post numbers).

This is absolute rubbish. Look at how life expectancy has increased. That "natural immunity" did not protect children against polio, measles, and smallpox, all of which could and did kill. And many children DID die from diptheria or whooping cough; today because of vaccinations that is almost unheard of.

It is only because of vaccinations that our children no longer have to be worried about measles, smallpox, mumps, rubella, and polio. The vaccines do work, and the miracle of herd immunity is that they don't even have to work in everyone. But it is essential that everyone get vaccinated! We acheived that for smalpox, and now nobody has to get vaccinated because there hasn't been a single case of the disease in 30 years.

Charlie Hall, please read
Even if you have a PHD in biostatistics it does negate facts.
Yes, no industry is more regulated than pharma, SURE NOT TRUE
Pharma is the industry that imported heparin from China that caused deaths in the US-kudos to Germany for figuring it out.
Pharma is the industry that imported eydrops that caused severe eye problems and near blindness-kudos to Singapore for figuring it out, banning it and warning the US which did nothing.
A regulated industry tries to stop deaths and figure out what is wrong rather than hide problems.
The clear pattern is that other, even small countries are more alert and diligent in protecting their population. I would not place blind trust in Pharma nor the FDC nor any Government agency that is supervising pharma.
