Prague, Czech Republic - Czech Republic authorities say they’re investigating evidence that elite troops deployed in Afghanistan had Nazi swastikas on their uniforms.

Defense Minister Martin Bartak has ordered Army Chief of Staff Vlastimil Picek to immediately investigate the case and promised severe punishments if a media report about the display of Nazi symbols is found to be true.

“This cannot be tolerated,” he said, adding that the reputation of Czech military units in foreign missions could be adversely affected by such incidents.

Elite troopers Jan Cermak and Hynek Matonoha, both from the Czech Republic’s 4th Rapid Reaction Brigade, have been accused of wearing Nazi symbols on their uniforms. The daily newspaper Mlada fronta Dnes published a photo of Cermak wearing the symbol of the Nazi SS Dirlewanger brigade on his helmet.

Other sources report that these soldiers did not know that the patches were Nazi era symbols. It is common for soldiers to wear random military related patches that look "cool" because it sets their small units apart. I saw the 2 patches in other media sources and I would never in a million years would recognize them as WW2 German Nazi related symbols. Most people recognize the SS and Swastika but these look like some unit ID.
I just hope that these soldiers were really clueless what these patches meant but if they wore them intentionally because they were Nazi patches, then they should get severely punished.

Well said poster #1. Also, before over-reacting, we should also keep in mind that the czechs are pretty much the only friendly country in europe that Israel has.

Kufiya (Keffiyeh) is used by all arabs, not just those in E.Y. And it is common among foreign troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, including U.S. Army, as an offical part of battle uniforms. See Wiki - Keffiyeh: Military use.
