Newark, NJ - Weysan Dun, whose tenure as the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Newark division included the arrests of 44 people in a sweeping corruption investigation this summer, announced Thursday that he will be leaving that post at by end of the year.

Dun, a 27-year FBI veteran, made the announcement in brief remarks to about 200 people attending the Dialogue and Unity Dinner, an invitation-only gathering sponsored by the Interfaith Dialog Center at the Marriott Teaneck at Glenpointe on Thursday night.

Dun said he will return to Nebraska, where he directed a domestic terrorism investigation that dismantled an extremist organization in 1985, to become special agent in charge of the FBI’s Omaha division. The Omaha division covers Nebraska and Iowa. Dun said he will be reunited with his wife, who he said has been living in Omaha.

A native of Kirksville, Mo., Dun came to the Newark division in April 2007 from Illinois, where he had been special agent in charge of the Springfield division.

Dun took the helm of the Newark division just three months after a real estate mogul charged with bank fraud signed a plea agreement with federal prosecutors. The developer, Solomon Dwek, spent the next 2 ½ years wearing a wire for the FBI, which the U.S. Department of Justice used to build the sweeping corruption case against the 45 defendants, who were arrested in July on charges that included corruption and money-laundering.

The mayors of Ridgefield, Secaucus and Hoboken were among the public officials accused of extorting bribes from Dwek to expedite his development projects.

Hatzlacha on his new assignment and he should work as hard for the citizens of the midwest in exposing and punishing white collar crimes as he did in NJ. The whole Dwek affair, while hurting the reputation of the yiddeshe community in our area, exposed the low level of midos and the high level of greed among public officials and rabbonim as well. Since the arrests in NJ, there has been a much higher focus on compliance with the law by yiddeshe mosdos and that is a very positive outcome.

the FBI's purpose is "to root out criminal minds from society"
DWECK was the only "criminal mind" in the net
criminal minds have a profile , theyre not citizens that simply broke a law
ive lost alot of respect for the FBI ( even the bronx bombers case were not real terrorist looking for trouble it was the fbi feeding them the ingredients for trouble

Bloated payrolls, bloated benefit packages, bloated federal retirement funds. Justifying this, is what his NJ corruption scandal was built to support. Millions and millions spent to justify the funding for his office. They should spend some time fighting terror instead.

Promoted? How about DEMOTED. This is the one who headed the dwek case? Was he the one that made up half the accusations, and had the rat trap the people and force them into the illegal actions? Maybe they cought him at his own game, so they are taking him out of the lime light. Who know! Gut Vuch!

Idiotic thoughtless comments like these are not likley to inspire the FBI to make protecting shuls and yeshivos high priority. A simple 'thank you' for getting the terrorists off the streets would have been more appropriate.
