Jerusalem - An olive tree that was planted by New York Assemblyman Dov Hikind in the Jewish community of Shdema, between Jerusalem and Bethlehem, on Friday was uprooted by Israeli soldiers on Friday, according to coalition chairman Ze’ev Elkin.

Elkin told Arutz Sheva’s Hebrew news journal on Sunday that members of the committee for Jewish Shdema brought the tree to him and he planted it in his yard for safekeeping. He added that he looks forward to the day that he can return to Shdema and plant it, “sooner or later, preferably sooner.”

Kol hakovod to the military for not tolerating such a provacative action. This whole trip, the tree planting etc. by was a "photo op" for those opposed to the policies of Obama and Netanyahu who have pledged to find a solution to the current impasse. Now if only the military would do their job and "uproot" these illegal settlements as well which have proven such an obstacle to the peace process. There are many "legal" settlement opportunities within the west bank which are recognized by international agreements.

"Settlements" are not the obstacle to peace. This is a red herring made up by the Arabs and the leftists. The real obstacle to peace are the Arab countries who refuse to repatriate their "Palestinian" Arab brothers, keeping them homeless and stateless in order to use them as attack beasts to destroy the Jewish state of Israel.
If 22 Arab states (and 57 Islamic countries) would agree to welcome the Arab multi-generational "refugees" among themselves, there would be peace. This has nothing whatever to do with "settlements."
If you need anymore proof: Gaza.

Thank you for your astute analysis of what the real obstacles to peace are. The fine folks across the border who want to see all Jews dead have nothing to do with it...

You are a liar and an antisemite. First of all, there's no such place as the "west bank". There is Yehuda, there is Shomron, there is Binyamin, but there is no "west bank"; you will not find it on any map printed before 1949, when Jordan made up that term for the land it illegally occupied until 1967. Second, there are NO "legal settlement opportunities" in that area that are "recognized by international agreements". According to your holy "international agreements" ALL that land, including Yerusholayim, is meant to be judenrein. Third, the minute you call for the destruction of Jewish homes and making their residents homeless you are no better than any antisemite, and you should have the same mapoloh as them.

You are right, Please don't be busy with Israel when we, people who voted for you, are struggling with our day to day life.
Fight for a better living "in your own district"
And if you so much like those places in Israel, and you stick up for them, make an aliya and run for a seat, you are doing a much better job there than here.

#1 & #2 are completely off base. Shemda is territory C, which belongs to Israel's full control and has the right to utilize the territory in whatever way it wants. The Arabs are building ILLEGALLY throughout the Yehuda area and in Territory C without permission. Thank you Dov for allowing Jews to fulfill the moral right to live, settle and use their land.

What Hikind did is provocative and appears to be "attention seeking" as well, and uprooting a fruit tree is an issur d'oireisoh and against tzavo'as Reb Yehuda hachosid.
So both are obviously wrong.

israel was created by bankers (even the balfour declaration was addressed to rothschild) and used as a pawn for the west. that country is not my jewish home. those hemishe jewish settlers treat their arab neighbors terribly. they drive them off the road, they tear down their olive trees. israel even builds a massive wall cutting people off from their land.
that is not how jews behave. real jews would have solved this conflict years ago. israeli soldiers beating up jews (from gaza and haredim) and arab people are not how the descendants of shoah survivors should be acting towards any human being.
feh on israel. i am an american jew and proud of it! (even though it angers me to see how america harasses the muslims)
hikind stop brown nosing neo-cons and the zionist camp. come take care of new york city's problems.
btw. no i am not NK.

I'm sorry Mr but your comment was very inappropriate to say the least. You do not call your president y'sh and I don't care who you are. You can argue and disagree with him but don't get carried on and also don't forget: obama is not your next door Jewish friend that you should expect him to share your political views on life. So let him do his job and let's hope he does a good one for all of us. Good night!

"Obama and Netanyahu who have pledged to find a solution to the current impasse."
As did every president from Carter onward with zero results. In particular Arab apologist Jimmy Carter and Arafat host Bill Clinton, failed miserably because they they failed to realize when they the Arabs say "We want to push the Jews into the sea" it is not posturing, they mean exactly what they say. Hussein Obama will fail for exactly the same reason. Remember, this is the man who refuses to call the Fort Hood attack terrorism because he does not want to upset the people who have sworn to kill us.

Please keep in mind if the tree was not moved and replanted with a sufficient amount of the original soil to sustain it by itself, the laws of orlah and neta rivay begin from it's replanting.
