White House Marks Sikh Holiday For First Time
White House Marks Sikh Holiday For First Time (edit)
Washington - Last Friday, the White House hosted a reception commemorating the 540th anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first guru in Sikhism.

According to the White House Blog , this is the first time this holiday has ever been celebrated at the White House. Sikh leaders from around the country joined a number of White House staff at the reception that featured traditional hymns led by the Sikh Kirtani Chanters from the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India.

Kol Hakovod to the President for reaching out to ALL faiths on an equal basis and not making minority religions feel like second class citizens. Its only a few weeks until the WH Chanukah party with latkes prepared under chassideshe hashgacha from potatoes grown in the new White House organic vegetable garden.

Good to know they toned down their Chanukah Celebration, I Guess they just found additional funds in their holiday party budget to host this event.

Exactly. And did anyone ask why it was the Chanuka Party that was "toned down" and not their X-mas party?!

Anyone who has silly or derogatory statements to make about this should understand one thing. The Sikhs are the most militant and most courageous anti-Muslim religion and group that exists; and as Jews we should be happy that they are being given recognition at such a high level.

No, they are not. Sikhism is probably the religion that is closest to Orthodox Judaism; it's far closer than, say Reform "Judaism". And it is nice that the White House is doing this.

Are you privy to their plans for ?? Perhaps that party is toned down as well. Besides I would expect that any event would be in direct proportion to the number of people it represents.

Christmas is a federal holiday, Chanukah isn't.

Sikhs are hardly peaceful! They're a warrior nation, and there have certainly been SIkh terrorists. But boruch Hashem we have no problem with them, and they have no problem with us.
