Lakewood, NJ - The first Shidduch-Vision studio
opening in Lakewood, was celebrated last night.
The event was attended by the Rosh Hayeshivah Reb malkiel Shlita, the Mashgiach Reb Matisyahu Solomon Shlitah and Rav Dovid Weinberger Shlita from Lawrence, NY.
Shidduch-Vision is where boys and girls in Shidduchim can meet up to three times via high-quality, commercial-grade video conferencing set up in private homes. This will save time, money and the need to travel. If it’s on target-they continue in person.

This is appalling and contradictory to today's frum community beliefs. Besides for the fact that internet "suddenly "now is allowed, there are several other factors that are wrong with this ShidduchVision picture. Up until the last bunch of years, calling the girl before the date was the norm- you were going out with her regardless, so it made sense to call right? But now its a no-no. Nobody calls beforehand (and if you do you're looked at as different). So if this is so, then what is with this whole webcam business? If these days it is considered "not Tznius" to speak to the boy/girl before the date, then why is this new phenomena okay?? This is so not temimasdik- this is superficial and contradictory! Besides for the fact that you can no way in the world even compare talking to a screen to the wonders of face-to-face communication, this whole new idea just lacks so much real depth! The decision of whether to continue going out again or not is going to be based soley on if the guy/girl is physically attractive enough- it cannot possibly be based on anything else because everything else that there is to consider you cant figure out from talking to a machine. A cold machine

Just curious what happens when its a chassishe boy and girl that are seeing(for lack of a better word)each other. Given that first the parents meet (then the grandparents meet) then the future father in law meets the boy, then the future mother in law meets the girl and then they all meet, then the future chosson's sister meets the girl, and THEN finally THEY (boy and girl) meet. Just curious if all these meetings are also by way of shidduch-vision or they actually meet. Btw I'm really having fun, and I'm all for giving it a try.

The general comments evidence a lack of understanding of problem. This program was established because singles outside of the NY metropolitan area were often relegated to the bottom of the list of shidduch candidates because the time and expense involved in setting up a date.
Converesly, it is extremely taxing to travel to NY everytime a shidduch is discussed.
Most people feel it is in poor taste to set up a whirlwind tour of NY with % different dates in 2-3 days.
The ability to covenietly set up initial meetings will benefit many out of town singles who are currently underserved or sidelined.
While this was not the initial intent - it will be interesting to see if this concept catches on ig bochurim from lakewood will stop running to NYC or the surrounding areas -- allowing them to save time and money

I've been in the shidduch situation for too long. Any realistic aid to the effort is appreciated
Very often good matches that are not possible if the parties involved are separated by great distances. For example, if a girl from California seems to be a good match for a fellow in Brooklyn, it would not really be practical for them to meet due to the time and expense involved. This way they can have the initial meetings easily and inexpensively and if things go well they can proceed from there. Otherwise, it wouldn't get off the ground.
This has nothing to do with tznius issues.
Thanks to those who came up with this idea and are providing positive input to the very serious shidduch problem confronting our community.

I think it is you that lacks a general understanding of the problem.
Firstly, given the number of cities in America and the expense of setting up this these cameras it will never be set up in enough places to cater for the 'out of town girls'
Secondly, this is going to be ridiculously embarrassing for the boy and girl involved to go to the 'host's' house, if its a girl from out of town she will inevitably know the family and could even be a close friend. Shidduchim are a personal issue.
Thirdly, do you actually believe a bochur will not relegate an out of turn girl in favor of a REAL DATE because he can video chat with her?
Fourthly, as clearly mentioned in the video - you have to log on and book an appointment!!! Are we encouraging bochrim to use the internet?
Fifthly, if anyone in the world did actually think this was a good idea (and judging by the comments on this website there aren't many) WHATS WRONG WITH A GOOD OLD WEB CAM USING GMAIL OR SKYPE!!
The organizers clearly have too much spare time on their hands and should be sitting in a beis hamerash learning.

Kudos to the people behind this project ”
To#37, I would like to respectfully disagree with you as well. The technology exists to have these meetings without setting up these sophisticated centers (facebook/skype). I can not believe the rabbis would sign off on this moneygrabbing scheme. It clearly demonstrates their lack of sophisticaiton and their lack of touch with reality. The biggest issue is teh fact is that all the nonsensical chumras that have been instituted by the rabbis in the last 50 years have left them and the orthodox judaism detached from reality.

To those who feel the rulings of the Rambam and Shulchan Oruch are out dated, but who rely on Reb Moishe z"l as their posek to be matir Cholov Akum or to reveal a tefech of a married woman's hair, please see Igros Moshe AH I s.40, titled issur histalkus binashim. ”

While I'm sure the person who created this has good intentions, seeing someone on a screen is ABSOLUTELY NOT the same thing as dating them in person. A date is not only about sitting and talking to a person but also by doing something together (even if that "doing" is just walking into a restaurant and eating) and getting a feel for how you relate to each other as people in the world, and how the other person relates to others. This system could be very misleading in both ways-- one could seem compatible only to be a psycho around others when they go out in the real world together, or one could seem incompatible when really, had the focus not been so dead on when meeting the first time, it could have turned into something nice. I truly feel sorry for the people who are going to be subjected to this form of fake dating.

I know the man behind this project. He is from Baltimore, not Lakewood. Don't blame him for the craziness that we have created in the yeshiva community. Blame the hamon am and our leaders who can't seem to deal and embrace our world that we live in and constantly suspect us all of turning evil if we have the internet. I assume that all of the readers here are in the working world and therefore require the use of the internet. Why do our rabanim make us out to be second class citizens for it? We have sooo much to be proud of, as a people. Mi K'amcha yisroel, applies to us internet users too.

The only people missing the point are those who refuse to acknowledge the real reason for this stupidity: that boys today (and their parents) believe that it is the responsibility of the girl to come to the boy for a date so that out-of-town girls have to spend their money and take their time to go out with this budding tzaddik. And not once either, but maybe after the 3rd or 4th date will this prize be willing to go to the girl's city to date and meet her parents. If Avrohom, TZ"L, were looking for a shidduch for Yitzchak, TZ"L, today, Lakewood would demand that Rivka, TZ"L, show up in Chevron so that Yitzchok need not be bothered. So please...no more platitudes about how this is going to save money for all. it is just another scam for a boy not to be menschleich when going out with a girl.

89, I totally agree. As an out of town girl, I don't like this. Guys will nix us FASTER and WE will nix them faster since we're the ones who have to travel, and if all we see is such a fuzzy picture for 45 minutes in a room by ourselves, there's not going to be anything enticing us to travel in. So while the intention is good, I personally would rather travel and have me and him give it a fair shot, than this artifice.
As an aside, I honestly do not believe that out of town girls have more of a problem getting married than anyone else! Maybe a harder time getting dates, but I don't think you will find a higher percentage of single girls out of town than you would in Lakewood or Brooklyn (maybe even lower because we're better ;-) ).

Halacha,
I did not ch"v criticize reb Moshe z"l nor do I pretend to reach his toenails. I was criticizing the hypocrites who rely on Reb Moshe soley for his leniencies while ignoring the fact that Reb Moshe z"l did not ascribe to every modern orthodox lunacy. In the tshuva I quoted, that you "Mr Torah True Public" obviously didn't bother to read, Reb Moshe writes that a person walking in the street is better off looking at the floor and that a Rov speaking to woman has no reason to look her in the face. Likewise when Shulchan Oruch and Rambam write that it assur to walk behind a woman, it is talking about a properly clad woman (even in those days Goyim dressed by a much higher standard.) and it doesn't say only if you're going to stare.
But as long as you threw down the gauntlet. On Giluy saar Reb Moshe z"l differs with the Chasam Sofer, Tzemech Tzedek and Chofetz Chaim, that assur any hair showing. In shulchan oruch the revealed "tefech" in question is that which her husband can see and still be permitted to read Kria shma. It is assur for everyone else. (cont'd)

Additionally, Reb Moishe z"l, ignoring actual Jewish practice for three millenia + , goes back to the posuk (visosur klias rosha) and tries to re-interpret the posuk in a more lenient manner. In this fashion Reb Moshe was a tremendous melamed zchus on klal Yisroel, but can you cite another example of an achroen that reinterprets a posuk contrary to the accepted Jewish practice as was practiced in all generations?
And BTW again, what is the Rosh yeshiva's heter to look at these women? Which "assesment of halachic kashrus" requires them to look at fremdeh women contrary to Reb Moshe z'l's Tshuva? In case the bochur asks him if the prospective kallah is good looking enough as befits a proper ben Torah?
Keep calling names and avoid the questions. It makes you look really smart.

Yes, Rivko did travel to see Yitzchok.
BUT, that was after the Kidushin, not before!
BTW, "Chochom", what do you do with the G'moro which says that the Derech is for a man to find a woman (including travelling), (not the modern day corruption of reversing this M'soiro)???

2-in answer to #63, who says he will be wearing pants and shoes
3-can we interview for cleaning ladies etc this way as well?
4-can the entire dating process/wedding/lifetime go this way? all that would be needed is an occassional visit in order to have kids. inless someone figures out a way to send that from one monitor to another .

In addition to the person who pointed out that Rivka came only after the kiddushin, I will point out that Avrohom, TZ"L, sent Eliezer there because Yitzchok was not permitted to leave E"I. And, Yakov Oveinu, TZ"L, also went to the girl. So unless that Lakewook tzaddik is alo an oleh tmimah so he can't leave Lakewood, spare me the sarcasm as to your wrong pshat.
