Jerusalem – United Hatzalah volunteer Avi Challa (age 45) had just responded to a call of a shooting incident. He worked valiantly to save the young man’s life but it was not meant to be. Avi stayed on to assist to provide proper pre-funeral arrangements. While still on scene he commented that he was not feeling well. An ambulance crew on scene checked him out but Avi assured them that he was fine and took a cab home.

Avi apparently suffered a fatal heart attack in the cab. The frightened cab driver called for help and United Hatzalah medics once again raced to a difficult scene this time it was one of our own. Professionalism took over emotion and no effort was spared to try to save his life. When it was clear that a successful outcome was not meant to be emotion took over from professionalism and grown men cried. May his memory and good deeds be a source of strength for his dear family, close friends and all who knew him.
Avi also volunteered with ZAKA.
