Israeli Hiker Killed By Snake Bite Body Identified A Month Later Israeli Hiker Killed By Snake Bite Body Identified A Month Later

Peru - The body of Israeli hiker Omri Lahad was identified Monday after being found near the Colombia-Brazil border, the Yedioth Ahronoth daily reported Tuesday. Lahad had been missing since October 28.
According to the report, during the search efforts for the Israeli hiker over the past few days it was discovered that an identified body had been found near the border between the two South American countries about a month ago.

The body had been held in a remote police station all this time, as the locals were unable to identify it. After Lahad’s pictures were published, they suggested that the body may belong to him.
Marks found on the body point to the possibility that the hiker died after being bitten by a snake.

The Lahad family received the bad news on Tuesday night.

Omri Lahad, 23, of Rosh Pina, went missing in the Amazonas area between Colombia and Peru. He was last spotted in the city of Leticia in Colombia, using an ATM machine.

Lahad travelled to South America with three other friends, who have already returned to Israel. A search delegation, including his brother Tom, arrived in the area he had last been seen in earlier this week.

Unfortunately, this is an all too common story.
Israelis are all over the world, particularly the far east and South America doing the most dangerous trips and sports.
They have nothing from their secular hedonistic life and look for meaning and/or entertainment all over the world with no limits to the risks they take.

A simple BD'E would have been appropriate instead of your insensitive posturing. Do you say the same thing when someone frum gets hit by a car? He was doing nothing bad - there are tiyulim in Israel and people get injured too. He was a yid and we are poorer for his loss.

When you live in a small country with constant threat of terror and wars and required military service at age period when most people at that age group enjoy their youth, I can't blame these Israelis wanting to explore the bigger world out there after they're done with dealing with Palestinians/terror groups/wars/politics.

I can tell you that a lot of non secular guys look for entertainment/adventure in life but the difference is that they can't show it on the surface and have to pretend that they're eternally happy going to shul-work-home-yeshiva-shul for their entire lives. I don't think you would say the same thing if the story was about some yeshiva boys going missing on a hike in mountains, like it happens.

Just because guys like sports or exploring countries it doesn't make them "hedonists."

Traveling to Columbia is hedonism?! These people are idealistic and are looking for meaning although in all the wrong places. Maybe it's time the Charedim try to be Mekarev rather than Merachek.

he went there for adventure and to see nature

what is wrong with that

maybe not for you but for many an exciting adventure is fun, and you can see nature and see animal in their natural habitat.

You are really narrow minded

one can find G-d in the nature, His holy creation and that can be a good meaning to grow one's spirituality up... and doing some sport isn't treifa, travelling either... not everyone can study all day...
This is a strange way to die, but danger is everywhere... but wonder why his friends weren't with him in the moutains when it happened ?
