Los Angeles, CA – A top Los Angeles police official says the city has seen an uptick in activity by Israeli organized crime rings.

Deputy Chief Michael Downing, who heads the Counter Terrorism and Criminal Intelligence Bureau, said today that Israeli organized crime is responsible for a growing number of real estate frauds, narcotics sales and other crimes.
Downing says it’s too soon to say if an October attack on two men who were shot in the kneecaps at a North Hollywood synagogue was related to organized crime. He says the attack was unconnected to any terrorist activity and the men were shot as some kind of a warning.
His comments come after a trip to Tel Aviv, where he spoke at a police conference and was asked about Israeli organized crime.

I once read an interview in an israeli with a retired italian mafia boss. He said that if one reads the local israeli papers with “mafia glasses” on you would surprised how most news articles and events in the regular life are mafia based. A killing here a robbery there, scandals etc. He said that without a doubt the israeli mafia is the worlds up and coming leader.
