Staatsburg, NY – An old rail bridge converted into a lofty walkway over the Hudson River has attracted about 400,000 visitors in its first two months, far more people than officials expected to visit in a year.

The Walkway Over the Hudson stretches 1.25-miles from Poughkeepsie to Highland, about 70 miles north of New York City. The walkway opened Oct. 3.
A consultant hired by the private group that rehabilitated the 19th century bridge estimated that the walkway would draw about 268,000 walkers, joggers and bicyclists a year.
Jayne McLaughlin, director of the state park’s Taconic Region, says mild weather probably helped, but that the walkway has obviously captivated peoples’ imaginations. She expects visits to taper off as winter sets in.
Do they charge a fee to walk or bike on over it?
where is this? how far from the country? sounds like a gr8 chol hamoed trip
This is very similar to the Highline park in Manhattan.
Sounds nice, but you can walk and cycle over the Hudson without going upstate, right from NYC – over the George Washington bridge.
went chol hamoed succos. free and gr8 long walk with terrific view. Hint: Have someone pick u up at the other side so u dont have to walk it twice.
And you can get there on the Metro North — Poughkeepsie is that last stop on the Hudson Line!
How dare the gov’t spend money on luxuries? Aren’t we in debt? Cant we spend money on more important things?
