Suffolk County police say its hate crimes unit is trying to identify three youths who were videotaped attacking the candelabrum in front of Friendly Drugs in Holbrook.

A surveillance camera recorded the vandals attacking the menorah about 11:48 p.m. on Friday.

Suffolk County Hate Crimes Unit Detective Sgt. Robert Reecks tells Newsday that about a dozen cameras around the county are pointed at menorahs.

In recent years, Long Island menorahs have been targeted by vandals.

The candelabrums are lit during the eight-day Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.

It’s sad to think that we have such problems in Long Island (and in NYC as well). I wonder if our large presence aggravates the goyim and if they would not do such things if we were not as prolific in the area.

Now that they know the time frame of these acts maybe they can get real officers (undercover) standing by the more targeted menorahs.

Stop with this lubavitch obcession with flaunting big menorahs. Even their rebbe said its purely symbolic and you are not yotzeh the mitzvah of neir chanukah with such a display. Maybe we should string up lights on the beis medrash or put a big tree in front of the mikvah leshem the non-existant mitzvah of pirsumei nissah. We should focus on the real mitzvah of chanukah rather than providing full employment for lawyers and antisemitim by trying to erect 25 foot menorahs in the public squares and streets of America.
