New York – DavenForMe.org A Remarkable Organization

    20

New York – Every once in a while, you come across an organization that just wants to do good, just wants to do pure chesed. Not looking for money, not looking for praise, just looking out for people. I’m not very easily impressed, very much the skeptic, but this is a really an amazing organization.

DavenForMe.Org – is just such an organization. Not looking for anything other than Saying Tehilim and Supporting your Fellow Jew.

Thousands of people, reciting 5 chapters of Tehilim daily on behalf of a fellow Jew and having the recipient, in turn, reciting 5 chapters of Tehilim on their behalf.

With over 3,000 members, the entire Sefer Tehilim being completed over 65 times daily!

Daven For Me matches up people in need of the same type of Tefilos to say Tehilim for each other. It was founded based on the Talmudic dictum: “One who prays on behalf of his friend and is in similar straits, is answered first”. Can any Tefillos be more powerful than when we set aside our own worries and offer Tefilos paired with love and compassion on behalf of a fellow Jew who awaits a similar salvation.

I urge you to join in this remarkable undertaking. You are only helping yourself and your fellow man/woman.

Joining is a simple three step process:

Step One: Visit us online at www.davenforme.org to fill out an application or call 718-437-8812 to receive an application via mail or fax.

Step Two: Upon joining, you will be paired with someone experiencing a similar situation. All member information is kept in the strictest of confidence. If both partners agree, they can share information and communicate with each other to offer moral support.

Step Three: You will be assigned a personalized Sefer containing your 5 chapters of Tehilim to be recited daily.

I like how the writer pretends to be an impressed outsider (“I’m not very easily impressed, very much the skeptic, but this is a really an amazing organization”) but then urges people to join “us” online.

It would be an even bigger kiddush hashem if they paired yidden from differnt chassidus, different hashkafos etc. to say tehillim for each other. I cannot imagine anything making the Ebeshter more likely to respond to our davening if a misnaged was to daven for a chassid or a Satmar to daven for a Breslov. The ultimate would be to have a follower of Rav Zalman to daven for a follower of Rav Aharon. That would bring tears even to the Ebeshter and would hasten the coming of moishiach.

Sounds a little selfish to me. I think the dictum is meant for those who hear about someone who has a similar predicament, not those searching for someone who has a similar predicament in order to have one’s own tefillah answered! Oh well, that’s capitalism of America.

i dont think this is what chazal had in mind with hamespalel bead chaveroi! You cant scam Hashem, do a little trick , whisper some other guy’s name when really all you want is a yeshua for yourself. Hamespalel be’ad chavaveroi is when you really care about the other person, want to see him helped, and you daven for HIS tzar,(even when you yourself have the same nisoyon, you choose to channel your tefilas to help another yid.)This program is a crude deception, “want to get helped fast, try this loophole and it works like a charm.
    I dont think so.
    nebach on our foolish generation.
we have so missed the point

can someone run a study if it works? Dose anyone think that if you compare a group of sick patients that use to a group of ordnary patients, we would find them having a longer life?

There’s one thing missing in the story, this whole organisation was inspired by a beutiful song from Dovid Gabbai called daven for me and I’ll daven for u, its an amazing song written by Yitzy Waldner, anybody of you that inspired by this org. Should listen to the song,

Thank you Mr Lazar for bringing this organization to the attention of vos iz neias readers. my daughter and her friends have been involved in the effort and have only gained from it. It does not speak to me as i am a remnant of a long forgotten pre-internet-observant-jewish culture, but it certainly seems to be infused with the rachmonim/gomlei chasodim hergesh of true yiddishkeit. It is sad to see that our talk-back culture has jaded many of us. may we all merit a lev basor and a teshuva sheleimoh. let’s takeh continue to daven for eachother

Is this any different than paying someone to say Kadish for a departed family member? I am not of the frum cimmunity and not Torah educated but did indeed hire someone to do that when a close relative passed away…was that wrong?

Reading some of these comments I see real sick people, finding fault and criticizing every good thing (not only on this article) I think they should be the first to join, perhaps the Org. can pair them up and they will pray for each other… They’ll see first hand if it works, if this is what Chazal meant Hamispallel Be’ad Chaveiro… or are they beyond help since they are in denial….

I think it’s a great idea, but I don’t see why they need our personal information such as full name and address. Why not just our Hebrew name for davening, what we are davening for, and our email address?

Any time a yid davens it has value, and every time klal yisrael completes tehillim it makes a mark in shomayim. It is not a contest, merely a statement. Critics, get a grip. Stop complaining about yidden who are saying tehillim. Who cares what their motives are? Do you have pure motives and kavana every time you daven?
