The Rabbinical “Lobby for Jewish Values” started recently a campaign targeting restaurants and hotels that decorated their buildings for Christmas, and its chairman, Ofer Cohen, said that the lobby is considering a boycott campaign against these businesses. A source at the council said that businesses that refuse to comply could have the Kashrut certificate revoked.

The issue raised concern among Christian leaders while Israel’s Foreign Ministry received a number of complaints from the Vatican and other world leaders.

The Vatican called the Israeli embassy asking for clarifications. The embassy also received calls from a number of groups, including Congress members.

Following the complaints, Oded Weiner, director-general of the Chief Rabbinate, received a call from Israel’s Foreign Ministry, and said that this issue is only a recommendation to the hotels and restaurants. But he also said that although this is a non-binding proposal, and although it is improper not to display Christian symbols, yet “such symbols could offend members of other faiths”.

I would never, EVER display a Christian symbol. But why shouldn’t Christians in Eretz Yisrael be able to do so? I live in a mostly Christian country and nobody protests against my Chanukah menorah!

If you condom the Church in Moldova for not allowing the Menorah (and you called them anti-Jews), than you must disagree with the ruling of the Rabbinate.

You can’t have it both ways my brother’s – what goes around comes around.

When Israel became a state it meant that moshiach has come. Now that Moshiach is here we can tell the goyim not to display trees etc. because we are no longer in golus.
(to the thick ones: This post is meant sarcastically so don’t call me a zionist!)

to #22 … you had me rolling on the floor laughing… there is no other religion in the vatican. They only have judaica (which I believe is NOT on show but in their archives) because it was plundered from yidden.

    i will stand corrected

tell me the origin of the black caftans worn by hasidim…
were these perhaps the dress of polish nobles?

if not, what is the origin of streimels and of black caftans in the hasidic community?

Everyone stop living in this past.
What does what christians did to us in the past have to do with now??
You sound like these Balkan countries..that are just mired in the past..and fight wars based on wars that happened centuries ago.

I don’t understand how some people can be so stupid. They will cry anti-Semitism when someone won’t allow the menorah in a non-jewish place, but they will have all the excuses not to allow the cross in Israel.

Make up your mind: are you a racist then don’t cry when other people are too.
