Manhattan, NY - A 9-year-old girl found her mother dead Thursday in their upper West Side apartment, apparently killed when she fell in the bathtub and struck her head.
Shele Covlin, 47, a financial adviser for UBS Wealth Management, was found in the W. 68th St. condo about 7 a.m., but police sources said the accident may have happened earlier while her daughter was sleeping.
Detectives suspect the victim grabbed a handle to lift herself out of the tub, and the handle gave way.
Last January, Colvin, her brother Philip Danishefsky and father, Joel Danishefsky, were hired away from Merrill Lynch by UBS.
The family are members of LINCOLN Square Synagogue

Nebach nebach. Poor kid she's going to need years of therapy. The family should have a nechama and klal yisroel has to do Teshuvah. My beloved brothers and sisters look at what's happening to us. Daily tragedies and scandals. We are responsible for each other. If one Jew doesn't act properly it brings us all down and innocent people can get hurt. Please let's be mekabel to start living like Jews not like Goyim with Torah.

being in hatzalah for over ten years, I know of several incidents just in my town, where children of all ages, found their mothers dead. including a mom who gave birth in the toilet and bled to death there. the child was pulled from the toilet water by us and resuscitated. The girl who found them was very traumatized weeks and months later. These things happen.

“ Sheina Mindel Bas Yechiel Hillel ”
Thank you for providing the name. I would like to wish the entire family my sincere condolences upon this horrific, sudden, tragic loss of such a young and successful woman. May she be a meilitza yosher for her beloved daughter and the entire family. Danishefsky is a very prominent name - there was a very prominent Rav, I believe in Slabodka, named Rabbi Danishefsky. May she be gathered in to her 'choshuv' ancestors in Gan Eden. May we all grow spiritually just from the wake-up call of realizing how very valuable our lives are, and how we should live every minute to the fullest in serving Hashem, and may any personal improvement within ourselves to this effect be an aliyah for the neshama of Sheina Mindel bas Yechiel Hillel.

Please make sure you rhomes are as safe as they can be.
Handles at bathtubs or showers should not be glued on like tiles, they can fail. Handles need to be screwed in with a bolt or similar at the other end, and then pray that it lasts forever.

Shele was a delightful, wonderful person and may she rest in peace. This is a senseless tragedy. My heart is broken for her family. It was always such a joy to see her beautiful smile whenever she visited the Friars Club. May her child be strong enough to get through this without the suffering she will have to face.
We will miss you dear Shele.

Yeah. The doors should have bolts too. Perhaps that might have prevented Shele's death. But since there was no autopsy (thank you, Mark Apple), I suppose we'll never know.
Funny, I always thought pikuach nefesh (potential danger to human life) overrides the prohibition against autopsies. I also assumed that if a potential existed that a killer may be on the loose, a danger to human life existed. But what do I know?
May the Ever-present comfort the family among the rest of us who mourn for Zion and Jerusalem.

She was murdered. It was suspected from the beginning, but our capable police overlooked the fact that she had obtained an order of protection against her husband, who threatened to kill her, and that she had a meeting scheduled with her lawyer, to remove him from her will. And then there were the holy askanim, who got involved, and "saved" her from an autopsy.
Meanwhile, the kids (the daughter, btw, is a possible witness) are with their paternal grandparents, giving their father (who is now suspect # 1) complete access to them.
It is my understanding that Mark Apple denies (and has denied from the beginning) any connection with preventing the autopsy. If this is true, I apologize to him for my earlier comment (#25).
