Paramus, NJ – – The Orthodox Union’s Nach Yomi program, in which a chapter of Nach – Nevi’im (Prophets) and Ketuvim (Writings) – is completed every day, just had its youngest participant ever complete the cycle, which takes approximately two years. Menachem Gans, 12, of Paramus, just celebrated the completion of the books, and is now set to celebrate another milestone: his bar mitzvah on Wednesday, January 13, at Congregation Shomrei Torah in Fair Lawn. His bar mitzvah portion is Parshas Va’eira, which Menachem will read on Shabbos, January 16 at Congregation K’hal Adath Jeshurun of Paramus.

Menachem stated, “I chose to study Nach Yomi starting at age 10 because I knew I wanted to accomplish a goal in my learning in honor of my bar mitzvah.”
Menachem, who is in the seventh grade at Yavneh Academy in Paramus, plans to deliver a shiur (talk) on things he learned about Nach and connect it to his bar mitzvah parsha, with a focus on comparing and contrasting Rashi’s definition of a navi in Parshas Va’eira to the experiences of the many nevi’im encountered in Nach.
Howard and Rochelle Gans, Menachem’s parents, declared, “We are really very humbled by all the interest in Menachem, and at the same time, extremely proud of him. We know this is only the beginning for him and of his exceptional learning and achievements.”
Mazel tov…the parents must be kvelling. While the article doesn’t discuss it, this bochur is probably equally acomplished in secular and social matters since he just seems to project such maturity. Too many times we find a shallow focus on lamdus in some of the bochurim who acomplish much in their religious studies with no parallel effort in other aspects of life.

may he be a source of nachas for his parents and klal yisroel
Oh what a nachas! His parents and all klall should be proud of this young boy. VIN bring us more such stories!
I’m shepping naches. When was the last time a kid from one of “unzereh” yeshivos accomplished this. The MO are big masmidim. We should learn from them. They learn and they have lives, go to college, have professions. Seems like they do things right.
Hatzlucha
Wow!! A “bunch” Nachas!
מזל טוב מנחם This is something that I’ve wanted to do. This looks like a push for me to get started already.
I was his learning rebbe in camp one summer. He is a mentsch and is bright. Mazel tov to Menachem and his family.
Mazal tov may his parents, grandparents, siblings and all of klal yisrael continue to have much nachas from this young man.
mazel tov! klal yisroel should all be kvelling!

yuo have a holy name! Menachem shemo”
mazel tov you, its great to see that yidishe kids use their chuchma in learning torah, you are a great inspiration to other kids your age, including my son which is also blessed with these capabilities, may your parents see loads of nachas
Is this young man just 12 years old and having his “bar mitzvah”? Or, has he turned 13, or doesn’t it matter?
Thank you for all your wonderful comments regarding Menachem. For a 10 year old to begin this project & complete it on time (for his Bar Mitzvah) was truly a wonderful thing to see & participate in with him. We hope to go on to another project soon, but really hope this is an inspiration for others to begin/continue their learning projects. Don’t delay – the time is now. If we could do this together with secular homework, basketball, baseball, karate, wii & computer games, I’m sure you can too! Hatzlacha to all – howard
