The debate will take place Wednesday, February 24, 7 pm, at the Boro Park YMHA at 4910 14th Ave. in Brooklyn. The candidates will answer questions from a panel of Jewish Press reporters and editors, from the audience, and from residents who had submitted questions in advance.

    The candidates are
-David Greenfield is executive vice president of the Sephardic Community Federation
-Joe Lazar has worked at several posts in local government, including as budget director for the city’s Department of Buildings
-Jonathan Judge, president of the Brooklyn Young Republicans
    – Nachman C. Caller, Esq. Brooklyn, NY

“As a voice that has been trusted in the community for 50 years,” said Jerry Greenwald, the General Manager of The Jewish Press, “we feel a responsibility to present the candidates to the public and ask the questions that residents want asked—indeed many of the questions will come from our Boro Park readers.”

Felder has been appointed to the position of Deputy Comptroller for the city by the new Comptroller, John Liu

Good move by the Jewish Press. There might be at least one more candidate: Menachem Kaller. Either way, the JP is doing a good thing by bring the candidates together and having them side by side when the important questions about our neighborhood will be asked. Good Luck and may the best man for the neighborhood win !!

I think this should be a precedent. Let the Jewish Press start with this public forum debate and next they should have the two Bobover Rebbes debate in a public forum. Would be sure to attract a nice crowd. And if that works out amicably, they should move on to Satmar etc. Finally the Jewish Press coming through for the community. It took 50 years, but hey, better late than never.

Who in BP reads the JP? Why not have the Yated or Der Yid or the Hamodia host the debate?

GO JOE or anyone else who just wants to help us get back not change us!

I don’t think that in a place like boro park debates count

Whoever will get the endorsement of the yeshivas will get the votes
And since lazar is endorsed by all yeshivas besides bobov 48 who will most probably also endorse him greenfeld don’t stand a chance

Lazer will win this election since he has satmar belz bobov 45 and the rest of the communities in boro park signed for him

I really wish bobov 48 won’t join in so it will be proven that just like in the 39 district they don’t have votes the same goes for the 44th district

This is an alert to all residents of Boro Park on the City Council race

The reace for the seat vacated by Simcha Felder has now turned ugly, where fliers of endorsments and denials are coming a mile a minute. BUT, here is one issue that all residents of Boro park should look into.

David Greenfield has sent out fliers that he is endorsed by State Assmblyman Vito Lopez, who is the biggest racist next to Al Sharpton the city has ever seen, we in Williamsburg have suffered from this biggot and racist for over 25 years.

The entire housing lawsuits that caused the Jewish Community to be locked out from getting any apartments in the New York City Housing Authority, Bedford Gardens and Clemente Plaza is all to his credit.

All you need is to google Vito Lopez and Housing in Williamsburg and you will get results that your eyes will pop, at the same time is the most corrupt elected official that has been investigated by the NY Post, Daily news and the Village Voice.

Extortion, manipulation, black mail and political kickbacks is his specialty in construction, he calls it “Contributions”.

Just last week the residents in Williamsburg got the response from the newly elected City Council person Steve Levin, who was Lopez chief of staff who testified at the City Planning opposing the Rose Development that is owened by Certifid Lumber to build husing on the site. that was his FIRST agenda.

Boro Park, if Joe Lazar should be endorsed by Al Sharpton or David Duke Joe would have hell to pay, please don’t make the same mistake as so called leaders in Williamsburg who voted against the Jewsih candiadte to go with and anti-semit’s candidate.

We know you are a lot more educated and involved, don’t let your self be driven by phony letters and releases look at the candidates friends and surrounding, atitude tone of voice, humor and style and you will agree with me that LAZAR is your choice and only choice.

Ask yourself when the Mayor was at his Yeshiva (never heard off) where was Belz, Vishnitz, Bobov, Satmar, Ger, etc no where-now he wants them on board WOW

I’m shocked that people even consider Bobov (any for that matter)as a power broker since the last Rebbe was niftar no one looks at bobov in BP as a power broker they are the 3-4th biggest group with satmar being larger belz as well then maybe 48 and then 45 but if you have Belz & satmar automatically the rest will follow but I hope everyone unites for JOE LAZAR because he’s a real mentsch

I can’t believe not one a single commenter realizes what is really going on:
My friends, the Boro Park portion is a mere 35-40% of the 44th district.
In Bensonhurst and in Midwood, Hikind, Bobov, Satmar, Belz, Klausenburg, Vizhnitz and Ger don’t carry any weight at all.
So much for the notion that Bobov will make it or break it…

Don’t the people of Boro Park vote as individuals for the candidate that they think is best – like the rest of us do? I never understood Boro Park anyway.
