Mayor Michael Bloomberg will make the early announcement during a 1 p.m. news conference.

New York City residents were mostly spared from the blizzard-like conditions that paralyzed Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and most of New Jersey on Saturday, but as CBS 2 Meteorologist John Elliott tells us, the Big Apple won’t be so lucky this time tomorrow.

Forecasters say the nor’easter will develop off the North Carolina coast and intensify into a burst of snow on Wednesday.

Winds will cause blowing and drifting snow greater than the weekend storm.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for most of the CBS 2 HD viewing area in Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York, including all five boroughs of New York City, from midnight Tuesday through 6 a.m. Thursday morning.

Bad idea, thousands of wild kids roaming the streets looking for trouble.

This will be another embarrassment for Bloomberg.

I predict we will dodge the bullet once again, this time. nd Bloomberg will end up looking like a fool for making such a decision so early.

The current predicted temperature in NY is very close to the freezing mark of 32 Degrees and even a 1 degree temperature shift can make us have rain instead of snow.

A 1 degree accuracy in a weather forecast is not possible 24 hours in advance and any such prediction which DEPENDS on 1 degree accuracy must be delayed in time because the forecast becomes more and more accurate as the time of the event gets closer.

If we all haver Bitochon that Hashem W I L L indeed, give is a possible 1 degree warm-up of a weather change, we will definitely dodge the bullet again this time, just as we did last time.

The only sure (guaranteed) thing about the weather is that it is subject to change.

Bitochon, according to the Torah, is GUARANTEED to help.

To understand this better read TODAYS featured VIN article by Rabbi Twersky about Bitochon.

in 1969 we had the great Lindsay snow storm- the city was paralyzed for weeks. The 18 th avenue bus did not work for a week, the 49th street bus did not work for 2 weeks. I was in eighth grade of Toras Emes, and was the most senior person. I dismiissed the entire school, after minyan. No rabbayim were at minyan
New York Grow up, it didn’t even start snowing yet, and you are dismiissing school!!
    what a joke!!

This probably means that the yeshivos will close since there will be no city school bus service.

Let the kids enjoy themselves. They’re waiting for this for years. They get it once in a few years.

The yeshivot should not follow the public schools. Can you even imagine the amount of bitul torah from having all these yinglach hanging around the shopping centers and playing in the streets with the snow rather than learning.

what is the problem with all of you? Let the kids havea day off. Let them have fun. Let them be kids again. Let’s all take off of work for a day and enjoy it with our children. look at it as un unexpected gift!

If it snows – enjoy the snow. If not then enjoy the day off with your kids.

    Need ideas?
    Let them sleep late.
Talk to them about school, about Yeshiva, about friends, Chavrusos, what they are learning, what they are reading,
bake with them something special that they like
go shopping for a special erev Rosh Chodesh Adar shabbos treat

it is endless what you can do with this “free” day off.

    ENJOY IT – STOP COMPLAINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it’s developing off the Carolina coast and heading towards us, it is not a nor’easter!

Perhaps people are not thinking about the complexities of shutting down the schools. Last year they were blasted for not giving enough notice. Now, when they give ample notice people are not happy either. Remember what has to be weighed here:
    – Parents need time to come up with childcare
    – Should we bring the kids into school when it is snowing lightly, only to have a huge blizzard start right before they leave
    – How will public transportation be able to handle the load of both work commuters and kids
    etc etc etc.

Its not as easy as you think.

I think we should use this time to promote ahavas yisroel and help each other shovel and get cars out as apposed to complaining. The last storm right after Chanukah there was lots of chessed to be done, from gettign cars out to running to the pharmacy for milk for children etc.

Let’s use this time to teach our children about chessed. How about a fresh chicken soup for the elderly on the block?

It’s not so hard to do chessed, also invite friends to come play hachnosos orchim can be done outside the home as well.

Helping the elderly shoveling on such a day is not a joke. They can use it; in every neighborhood. To them it is real serious. It would be wonderful if the Yeshivas would teach the Mesifta/High school age boys to familiarize themselves with the senior citizens in their area; and come out to assist on such a day.

Can someone host a tehilim group for girls tommorow in flatbush I think that would be nice, if one person hosts one on each block in the morning for shacharis and then just say a bit of tehilim together it will accomplish alot upstairs there is plenty to daven for. Let’s do something positive. I think each school should help organize this.

As for the boys, let them do extra chessed.

You have got to see the storm in Maryland. We got about 14″ inches of snow, with temps with windchill of -5. Snow drifts are between 5 to 6 feet high. The city of Baltimore is shut down.
