The tribunal ruled in favor of Marise Myrand, who is in her 60s, claiming one of her neighbors and the Ste.-Marie-de-Beauce condo association discriminated against her based on her handicap.

Since 2005, Myrand tried to secure a parking spot closer to the building entrance because of myriad health problems, but was turned back at every attempt. She is diabetic, has heart and lung problems and carries an oxygen tank at all times.

The tribunal ordered the association to give her the parking spot and also ordered all 35 of her neighbors in the association to pay her $10,000 in damages.

A lawyer for the condo association said an appeal was being considered.

Unfortunately, the money she spent on lawyer fees would have been better spent on a nutritionist / exercise trainer. What led to the “handicap” in the first place. Sorry to be so harsh.

Accomodating the obese people only serves to reinforce their overeating and lack of good diet and exercise. The airlines are also headed down this path.

i cant believe you were so judgemental! You think she likes being fat? You think she chose it? Did it occur to you that maybe shes overweight because of the medication she takes for her health issues?
You know what? Even if she is overweight because of her eating habits, its the situation as is. now she has medical issues and needs the spot…

The comments just confirm what many of us know- obesity is the last allowed, acceptable prejudice. We would not tolerate disparaging comments about any other group of people. We would not allow flippant remarks about people who are physically handicapped, mentally ill, emotionally unstable, or of different ethnic or religious backgrounds. People who are fat are not necessarily lazy, eating a pie and a double fries for lunch, nor do they all have thyroid imbalances. There are a variety of conditions that lead to obesity, many of which are not affected by hours on a treadmill or other exertions and restrictions. Doctors and scientists are just beginning to discover causes of weight problems which may hopefully lead to their developing new, more effective treatments. In the meantime a little sensitivity would be nice.

Why do they have to humiliate her by printing her weight? If she is sick and needs to carry an oxygen tank, they should give her the parking space. That fact that she needs to lose weight is a separate issue, even if her weight impacts her health issues. The fact is she is sick and unable to walk far, so until she loses the weight she should have the parking spot. Poor woman!

True, no one knows what her true reason is for the overweight, however, one might learn from others in trying not to be burdensome to others . Many times, diseased people can be very difficult to live with if not downright miserable. What came first-the chicken or the egg, we don’t know, but the people who have to live with diseased person should receive some kind of sympathy as well.

Don't blame fat people for their weight!

To all you normal weight people who are making fun who is unfortunately for whatever reason unable to be thin. I’ll have you know that for some people it is very easy for them to be thin so they don’t understand those of us who are weight challenged. I am somewhat over weight, maybe 70 – 80 lbs. I have tried losing and succeeded a few times, but, always gained it back. I am sure that if you would see me eat, you wouldn’t think I overeat. I certainly don’t eat more than you “normal” weight people. SO don’t condemn or have prejudices against obese people. B”H I am healthy and active. I just shoveled out my driveway 3 times since Shabbos!

there are many reasons why a person can be heavy and cannot lose it,if you were born with a hidden problem, such as liver or have a whole mouth of mercy fillings in your mouth,we see today america is one of the sickest nation in the world, and unbe knowest have hidden reasons that does not show up in blood tests! perhaps the woman has food intolance

being active doesnt have much to do with obesity at all

or a 400lb person would lose more weight by just walking from the kitchen to the couch than a healthy person would going around the block.

eating raw foods (fruits & vegetables), and drinking lots of water EVERYDAY keeps the body’s systems in proper function that even eating junk in between wont slow down the body’s systems.

eating / drinking processed grains and sugars causes obesity, which would explain why AMERICA is #1 , after all we are the kings of processed food.

to avoid obesity avoid the following:

    Processed grains:
(breakfast cereals, all unnatural flour products including ‘whole grain/wheat’, including nearly ALL breads [excluding a kezayis of challah weekly], macaroni & spaghetti products, and baked goods. Nearly all american store-bought flour is processed to the point of being nearly poisonous to the body. Grind up your own flour from fresh dried wheat if u want to be skinny and eat baked goods.)

    Processed sugars:
(ANY and ALL products with ‘corn syrup’ [likely #1 cause of diabetes], including sodas, fruit ‘DRINKS’ [not 100% juice], ketchup, regular dressings etc, and ALL sugar products)

The callousness with which some of you write about people suffering from weight issues is disgusting.

Why no comments about her neighbors who may be assessed to pay fatties legal bill.

Next she will want special treatment to have snow and ice removed to get to her car.

    Or have the doors widened.

How does she get into the car. Maybe its a BIG truck.
