Brooklyn, NY – Internet has become a part of everyday life, but it has its risks and dangers. Should it be banned? Is this realistic, and is it necessary? There are those who have become addicted to internet use. Is this a legitimate addiction, and, if yes, how is to be treated?

Dr. Benzion Twerski of Borough Park wears many hats. Some know him as a mental health professional and askan. Others know him socially, where he is a member of a renowned family and part of the Chassidic community. He will spend time tonight on the Zev Brenner radio show discussing the danger of internet addiction in the Charedi community.
Dr. Twerski is the son of famed Rabbi Dr. Abraham Twerksi.
You can tune in at 12 AM to WMCA 570 AM, or online via www.talklinecommunications.com
O dnt understand why people care what the next person does?? What’s it ones buisness what one does on the internet??
Maybe you don’t. But I care what my children do. Our gedolim care what we, as a community do. I want my rabbonim and leaders to care what I do.
I am a deaf frum person. I use internet to keep up with news of what is happening, frum world news (as the community i am in don’t even bother tellng me what is happening and im invisible to them), emails. as a deaf frum person, im bored in this lifestyle where i cannot go to shiurim without interpreter..so i read alot of internet at nights. There are not much options for deaf person…
So is it an addiction or not? What did he have to say about it…
I myself think that an addiction is only if your life gets destroyed by it.
I use the internet and no im not hooked. My children use it too. the computer sits on the dining room table and I have blocks on. I find the children are not the problem its more the adults!!
My children do not have ipod touch or i phones.
we must be realistic. i dont want them going to their friends houses for it!
I understand….but still…religious jews tend to think what gos on in the next guys house and life is his buisness….each to his own
The ttherapists are the ones that have to deal with all the problems that come from it—That’s why!
There two distinct but related topics here. One is internet ADDICTION, and that was barely addressed in the program. The other is internet SAFETY, and that occupied most of the program, though there was planned discussion about 2 other subjects. Maybe there will be a followup program to complete the discussion about the addiction issue.
Twerski did not go far enough last night in his condemnation of an internet ban. Daas Torah has abrogated their responsibility in this matter. The addicts of the next generation are being created by these so called rabbinic leaders who think a ban is appropriate. What these beards should be doing is TEACHING the klal how to use the internet appropriately. Did these same yokels ban going to news stands to buy a Jewish Press because the newstand carries People Magazine and worse? Did chazal ban eating because someone could eat treif? Instead of accepting the pervasiveness of the internet and schooling our youth, these impotent fools choose instead to initiate a ban and try to enforce it by not accepting kids in school with internet in the house. Perfect! We’ll create a whole generation of shkotzim with no yeshiva background instead of educating bnei torah. The real issue is the incompetence of many educators today, alleged “mechanchim” who wouldn’t know how to teach water to freeze in 31 degree cold. What they are good at is collecting tuition that’s funneled to their homes. Need examples, I have puhlenty.
mr von nobal y r u looking at jewish sites and at least have the brains not to comment
