Washington - President Obama’s doctors hinted Sunday that he still might be sneaking smokes when Michelle and the kids aren’t around to yell at him.

Obama’s routine physical at the Bethesda Naval Medical Center found him in “excellent health” and “fit for duty” but the docs also included a cryptic recommendation that he “continue smoking cessation efforts.”

Obama should continue his “nicotine replacement therapy - self-use (gum or the patch),” the doctor said.

Obama owned up during the 2008 presidential campaign to falling off the wagon occassionally in his effort to quit with the help of nicotine gum.

Obama has also said that First Lady Michelle Obama, and kids Malia and Sasha, have been all over him to break the habit.

The initial report on the physical from Dr. Jeff Kuhlman, director of the White House Medical Unit, also suggested that Obama may have lost some of the jump on his jump shot.

The report said his knees sometimes ache and the docs recommended a “lower extemity muscle strengthening program.”

So. Flipping. What.
We already know that tobacco is addictive, much harder to quit than heroin or cocaine. As scandals go this right up there with wearing argyle socks.

He'd fit in well in heimishe circles (except that he supposedly is trying to quit). Smoking may be the only common denominator he has with chareidim.

Where he's going, he's better off getting used to the smoke now!

This is new for me. I agree with both #1 and #2. Both of you are right. It's tough to quit and plenty of Jews need to work on this issue, as well.

no,anonymous. He has something else in common with chareidishe yidden: lack of support for medinas yisroel. A freilachen purim.

He is both mentally and physically the most "fit" president in American history. The occasional smoke is no big deal. Also, his policies towards EY also will be shown in the long-term, to be in Israel's best interests and will force a settlement that will save lives and give us eternal peace.

If the Torah commands one to safeguard his physical health "meod", can someone explain to me WHY so many Yidden smoke? Especially bocherim today. The goyim seem smarter when it comes to health. Where's the Yiddische kop here?

No. Warren Harding, FDR, Lyndon Johnson, and JFK smoked as well.

The last president to smoke cigarettes in public while president was probably FDR; most have had an occasional pipe or cigar (Clinton comes to mind). Kennedy smoked cigarettes in private but never in public. A lot smoked cigarettes when they were younger but gave it up before becoming President- George W. Bush quit smoking when he ran for TX governor, when he was about the same age as Obama is now. Reagan famously endorsed Chesterfield cigarettes in the 50s, many years before he was elected.

If Obama does still smoke it can't be very much since presidents spend very little time alone and he has never been photographed smoking since his election. In any case he has been somewhat less friendly to the tobacco industry than Bush was; he signed that bill last year that put tobacco under FDA regulation.

Oh yes, he's solely responsible for young Americans smoking. Your idol Bush was an alcoholic. So what? Nobody saw him drink, and nobody sees Obama smoking in public. Get over yourself.

And the comments about "he's our role model" are especially rich, considering all of the rabbonim who smoke like chimneys. Would you dismiss them because of this nasty habit?

Bush was much more fit, physically at least, than Obams

I love the thought that a fellow Yid wishes lung cancer on the president of the United States. Have you ever seen anybody die of lung cancer? Probably not. Pray Hashem won't punish you for wishing these things should happen to other people.

I question the abilities of a president of the United States to lead the US to greatness, when he does not have enough will power to quit smoking. While smoking is an addiction, a well disciplined individual who sets his mind to quit, can do so without compunction. Clearly not this man.

That's how you decide who is qualified for the presidency? So that means you would never vote for someone who ever smokes? Interesting. Will you listen to rabbis who smoke? I mean, how can we trust them if they don't have the discipline to quit?

You're going to put a lot of rabbonim out of work.

Maybe everyone around him wants him to quit but he doesn't want to?
