Bronx, NY - A depressed Scarsdale doctor mysteriously vanished Sunday—and her physician hubby has told cops, “I think she’s dead,” was just found dead in the Bronx.

Dr. Mark Greenberg, 61, received a one-word text message from the cellphone of his wife, endocrinologist and mom of two Mona Shimshi Greenberg, 55, after she left the couple’s tony Tudor home at around 1 p.m. Sunday:

“Goodbye.”

Greenberg called the cops after his wife—who has been under psychiatric care—failed to return home by 6 p.m. Police tracked her cellphone, and at 9:35 a.m. yesterday, found her 2008, gray Honda CRV parked on the side of a desolate road leading to the NYPD shooting range at Rodman’s Neck in The Bronx.

A woman’s body - believed to be that of a missing Scarsdale doctor - was pulled from the Eastchester Bay today.
Police removed the body today near City Island.

There were no signs of trauma. Scarsdale police said the car was locked and there were no signs of a struggle.

A cause of death is pending from the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Shimshi, who was married and had two adult children, was chief of endocrinology at Bridgeport Hospital.

Her husband hired a lawyer on the advice of his rabbi.

Why did he need the advice of his 'rabbi' to hire a lawyer? Is his 'rabbi' guilty? Is he brain dead that he needs a 'rabbi' to run his life? Is he one of the 33 concert ban 'rabbis'?

But it sure beats shnurring to marry your kids off.

No one is immune to depression but that shouldn't be the excuse not to do hishtadlos to provide for your family.

He must have hired a lawyer just to be on the safe side. Because in cases like this, they can suspect the husband for foul play or at least question him if it wasnt an apparent suicide. Therefor the smart Rabbi told him to hire a lawyer.

I hope your life of mediocrity is now more happier since you convinced yourself that achieving a career that pays well and helps thousands of sick people and providing to your kids with more than you can isn't worth it at all.

The Rabbi probably advised him to hire a lawyer to work with the ME to avoid an autopsy.

To those of you with Rachmonos, thank you. Mona Shimshi was my best friend. As far as the Rabbi, the "leviah" will be on Friday and if you watch the news, you will learn that he is one of the most respected Orthodox Rabbi's in the world. The husband saved his life years ago and they have a unique bond of love between them. This is a very devastating event for the family and friends. We lost a great woman, a beloved mother, wife, daughter and friend, and above all one of the most caring physicians.

Mona was my coworker and my physician when I was first diagnosed with diabetes. She was a lovely person and a TERRIFIC physician. I was shocked and saddened to read of her death. I am sorry for the loss of your friend, her family's loss of her (I met her children when they were very young.) and the loss to all her current patients and coworkers. She was so passionate about this disease that kills and disables people on such a large scale and can be controlled and managed through education of both patients and physicians an area in which she was very active.

Depression, esp clinical depression can be a debilitating state that can end up in CV' a suicidal state. Sometimes we use ECT and it makes a tremendous difference in the lives of these individuals. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then good for you and may you never know. But I work in the field. That is why this is so tragic; that she was driven to this. This seems like a highly gifted person and it is indeed a terrible tragedy esp to her family members. It haunts the family for the rest of their lives.BTW depression doesn't care how educated you are or how many trips you take etc. It can hit anyone. your lifestyle is not relevant.Where did she come from-just curious. It looks like a sephardic name. Nebech.May she RIP.
