The donation will be made to provide water, medical supplies and temporary shelter for those in dire need.
Morris Gad, Chairman and CEO of Diamonds International, said that the commitment to donate was made without hesitation. “What happened to the people of Haiti is devastating, and our hearts go out to the victims and their families. A tragedy like this could happen to any of us, and it is important that we stand united as a global community and support each other.”
Diamonds International is also providing customers with the opportunity to donate at their store locations in the Caribbean and Mexico. St. Thomas Store Manager Jason Forbes said, “We’ve created a computer generated ‘donation SKU’ that allows our customers region-wide to donate any amount they desire to Haiti. We’re hoping that within a week, we will gather enough funds to provide the people of Haiti with the basic necessities we enjoy every day. We hope to continue accepting donations from the public until this nation is able to stabilize.” Additionally, the company is encouraging locals to stop in at any of their stores and donate any amount they can to this cause.
from his office in Manhattan In an exclusive interview with VIN News, Gad explained why he felt compelled to donate such a large amount of money to the Haiti disaster relief effort, saying “We have seen what Israel has done for the people of Haiti with medical relief and feel that every businessman should do what he can to support the tragedy in Haiti. We all come from one G-d, we are all human beings and it is important that everyone helps in whatever way they are able. Additionally, we are also looking into the tragedy in Chile. We have not decided yet what we are going to do, but would like to do whatever we can to help there as well.”

Your comment was so predictable, I had already begun to format a response before I had even finished reading the article and got to the comments bit. You have absolutley no concept of what these people have lost and what situation they find themselves in, I'd glady give up shabbes meals for the next six months if I knew by doing to another human being could receive life saving medical care, a basic roof over their head and clean drinking warter. There are plenty of people giving money for poor jewish families for shabbes already.... One organisation steps forward and gives to a non jewish charity and the comments start... In fact, I'm going to give money to the Hati appeal now, in your ignorance and would encorage as many people as possible to do the same.

If he is such a ba'al chesed, why doesn't he give his employees off on shabbos? Why are all his stores open on shabbos? Why are there Israelis working in his stores on shabbos?

Say something bad about someone which has nothing to do with his generosity. I couldn't care less about his stores. He doesn't force people to work there on Shabbos. What I care about is a great act, which hopefully will inspire other businessmen to do the same.

To number six . What kind of idiot are you? There are thousands of Jews who need money for basic neccesities like bread and water . Though thank god many Jews are generous there Still is alot more money needed and if u were to examine basic Halacha u would see the exact order of where u should give charity to. Namely ur own city first then yerushalaim and then ur own country and then eretz yisrael and then other Jews if ur supporting every Jew and still have money left over then do what u will with it. Not to say not to give to none Jewish charities but def not just to prove a point.

10&11; - Last time I checked there were not millions of jews left homeless, crushed under rubble, no food or medical aid by a natural disaster. All my meiser money goes to Jewish causes... I really dislike the narrow mindedness of people who cant look beyond the ghetto. What these people in Hati are facing is horrific.... you have absolutley no concept what so ever... I pity you both terribly.
BTW its only 50K... But that could keep chaim and mendle in cchopped liver and kishkes for the rest of thier lives.... shame. My money is on Hati.

while i understand there are many problems in the world, if u were to ask any askan in any jewish community they will tell about many jewish families that are indeed homeless or dont have health care and many other problems. so go ahead and give money to haiti and feel good about yourself but remember when the nazis come again we'll see who saves you some haitian or some jewish person who would take his shirt off his back to do anything to help. while i know ur not going to give any credence to this post maybe one day when u get over your need to make point you'll remember it and maybe give some money to some poor jew in need.

Actually, family members were saved by Righteous Gentiles, so maybe you want to rethink your theory. You clearly have no idea of what is going on with Haiti. Worse still, you clearly have no idea of what heroism is, and how many goyim heroically risked their lives to save ours.
