Williamsburg, NY - A dolphin was just spotted again near the Brooklyn Navy Yard where fireboat captain Bill Hannan spotted two dolphins Tuesday.

“It’s heartbreaking to see such a beautiful creature in such terribly polluted water,” said John Lipscomb, a patrol boat captain for environmental group Riverkeeper, who said the dolphin was likely sick and disoriented.

“We hope it finds its way back to sea,” he said.

Rob DiGiovanni, director of the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation, said the group would monitor sightings of the dolphin and could mount a rescue mission if there were signs it’s in distress.

NYPD Emergency Service Units and NYPD Harbor where requested now to respond to the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Obviously the dolphins come first! Just like in Sea World where a killer whale that has already killed a few trainers is being kept alive and either not let back into the wild or killed. People come second, if you have any doubts ask PETA.

Dolphins are not fish, they are a mammal.

Hakoras Hatov for the dolphins, they're known too save human durning distress; the least what we can do, is give them some dolphin-safe tuna.

Dolphins are without a doubt treif, as mammals must have split hooves to be kosher, and dolphins have no hooves at all.

Or if halacha considers them to be fish, they must have scales to be kosher, which dolphins also lack.

At any rate, the gefilte fish can only be found swimming in lakes of pure seltzer water.

Dolphin meat is too lean for gefilte fish and there are some questions from litvashe rabbonim regarding its kashruth. Carp, whitefish and catfish are the more traditional and appropriate options.

Dolphins are not fish; they are sea-dwelling mammals. They do not have scales, so they are not kosher. Stop this "gefilte fish" nonsense.

Only PETA and you liberals want to see it set free. That whale is worth a fortune for that company. The trainer who died knew she was not supposed to be in the tank with that whale. Her death is her own fault. Why does Sea World and its investors have to take a massive loss because of one woman's stupidity? No conservative on the planet wants to see anything happen to that whale. It is a cash cow! He is one of the most prized studs in the world. What the heck would killing it do for anyone? You may not realize it, but your liberal views are much closer to PETA than you think.

As for the dolphin, it is dangerous to have them in the water. Invasive species can destroy ecosystems. Animals that end up in places where they don't belong can cause all kinds of heartache. Here in FL, for example, we have a big problem with pythons. People buy these foreign species as pets and then release them in the woods when they get too big. Now we have thousands of these pythons showing up in school yards, eating pets and threatening livestock. I suggest you educate yourself about invasive species threats before you make stupid comments.

The story at SeaWorld was NOT the trainers fault. I read the news not just skim articles. It said the shark pulled her in from outside the water. She was on a stage/platform and it grabbed her hair and shoulder and pulled her in. Its called killer whale for a reason. I'm no lib but I think what they do at SeaWorld is wrong but tolerable UNTIL IT CLAIMS HUMAN LIFE.

The poskim don't argue if dolphins are kosher. They simply are not. Also, no body uses catfish in their gefilte fish because the are also not kosher. Oh and #18, that orca or killer whale that killed its trainer is a dolphin despite the name whale.

Gefilte fish from "catfish"...I think not. They are also as treif as dolphin. Carp and whitefish are probably ok with chasideshe hashgacha.

It hurts to defend my silly friend PMO, but apparently you should read the news twice. It was a killer whale, not a shark.

You yourself should educate yourself better.

The trainer was in the water with the dolphin. Seaworld covered up the story by saying the whale pulled her in. The people that saw it happening said she was in the water.

Environmentalists were not concerned about the dolphin's safety in these waters until it became entangled in a beachball sized clump of hair that seemed to have be dumped in during the most recent mikvah cleaning.

Really? She wasn't on the jut-out in the tank lying down in the water and playing with the whale? Every single news agency must be wrong.

VIN, you will need to correct your reporting as well. Mr. Anonymous here clearly has the story that nobody else has!

As a Floridian who has had to watch daily coverage of the Sea World story, let me set a few things straight.

1. IN THE WATER, along the edge of some of the holding tanks is a 2-4 foot deep ledge where trainers can stand/sit in the water with the whale without going all the way into the pool. The whales can swim right up to the trainer.

2. The trainer was laying in the water on one of these ledges rubbing the whale's head while people from the "Dine with Shamu" experience looked on.

3. When the woman turned her head to look back at someone or something, her ponytail dangled in front of the whale and he grabbed it like a toy. He then pulled her off the ledge into the deep portion of the tank and swam with her in his mouth.

4. Being in the water (even on the shallow ledge of the pool) with the whale was against Sea World policy. Every trainer (past and present) who has been interviewed said they don't know why she was with that particular whale as the policy was known to everyone. That whale was not trained to be in that close proximity to people safely. Some think she believed she had a better relationship with the whale and took the risk on her own. Still a violation of policy

I like your post...and it's also so true. Dolphins are intelligent and kind creatures and as civilized people we should support every effort to get them back out to sea and away from the dangerous waters of NYC. As Jews don't we have an obligation to be kind to other forms of life that are not a threat to us?
