Buffalo, NY - New York Democrat Eric Massa is stepping down from his seat, effective Monday, in the House of Representatives.

Knowledgable Democratic officials told The Associated Press that Massa, who has announced he will not seek reelection due to a recurrance of cancer, is resigning his seat.

The House ethics panel is reviewing a complaint by a male staffer who reportedly felt uncomfortable in a situation with Massa that had sexual overtones.

The freshman lawmaker won a longtime Republican district that was carried in 2008 by John McCain.

Please hold your angry comments. Rep. Massa is having to leave office because of illness. There is absolutely no hint of corruption in his career. We should all wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Absolutely not, he is leaving because of "other issues". If you check out his website, it is really clear. Anyone familiar with Massa, knows that he's a fighter, and would never leave, because of illness. Also, check out politico, liz benjamin at the NY Daily News, and Bob Lonsberry up in Rochester. Not a single Democrat has come to his defense. In fact, many Republicans in his district liked him, because he was such an outspoken figure. But he was his own undoing.
