All the yiddish newspapers from 2 weeks ago had the Kolels advertisement stating that they have set up a special tzedokah in memory of Grossman. Apparently, they had an enormous amount of criticism and flak that such a holy organization would stoop so low as to set up a fund for an admitted murderer. The organizers for all the protests for Grossman now realize that the entire situation got totally out of hand and that they were terribly misled by some Rabbis in Florida.

The protests, the letter writing, the learning of Mishnayos totally out of hand.
Two 4 year old children were killed in vehicle accidents in the past three weeks, One in Brooklyn and one by South Fallsburg Yeshiva. Did any of these Mishnayos learners and Tehillim sayers for Grossman, think twice about crying and saying tehillim and learn for these two poor Neshomos ( and for their heartbroken parents).

It is mind boggling how carried away people got that by the levaya they said Zichronoi “Tzadik V’kodosh” Librocho. What? The same title as L’havdil R’Shmuel Birbaum and R’ Aron Kotler and the Satmar Rebbe ZT”L.

Credit however should be given to the Kolel for retracting on their error in judgement.

It means that they relized how idiotic they were , after all is said and done Martin Grossman is still a cop killer and its bad publicity to associate with that. I am glad that shomrei hachomos came to their senses

Tha ad also appeared in Der Blatt. I just checked, the ad will be re-running again this week. The fund still exists! Its internal politics, Shlomo Meyer is loosing ground, the younger board wants the fund in memory of Grossman. I guess its a wait and see approuch. as to who wins.

So Martin’s neshama won’t get any badly-needed zechusim.

I agree that the way they phrased the ad turning him into a saint was distasteful, but the idea was to provide him some merits in the next world, not to glorify his memory, and it should have been expressed accordingly.

Pity they didn’t coordinate this with a P.R. firm before they publicized it…

I’m not saying my opinion here if it was right or wrong, this ad just makes no sense.

“Rabbi Shloma Meyer of Kollel Shomrei Hachomos assured VIN News that the advertisement was erroneously placed in Hamodia.”
Where was it supposed to be placed??

How do we know that this ad isn’t an error??

If they changed their mind what is so hard in being honest and saying we changed our mind, why do they have to cover it up so silly??

Grossman is burining in Gehinom right now. Drunk or not, youthful indescretion or not, he was a Rotzeiach. He needs to burn for the 11 or 12 months before his Neshama can have an ALiyah. Meanwhile, spend your money on good Tzedakah causes and his Gilgul will just have to retry.

The truth of the matter is that they must have gotten a lot of flak for it and decided to do damage control. It most probably wasn’t done originally with the permission of the entire KSH leadership as they don’t sit for things like these; and it was evidently not well planned out.

I had originally pointed out that they shouldn’t have given him the honoraria “Reb” as it was entirely unnecessary; and in the Hebrew it Takeh wasn’t there. They should have also never put up a Gemach in his name, only a Keren Kayemes (perpetual fund) to pay for the learning of Mishnayess and saying Kaddish for him perpetually.

They also should have explained it that this doesn’t mean that they consider him a Tzadik but feel that they want to do something for his poor Neshomah, because after all he did Teshuvah and had the Zchus of bringing us together with our Ahavas Yisroel.

For those who ask why we don’t put up a fund for those Kinderlach who were Nebech killed in accidents; the answer is obvious; these Kinderlech, Tinoikes Shel Beis Rabbon Shloi To’omi Taam Chet, they go straight to Gan Eden; and for Daniel Pearl and all those who died Al Kidush Hashem, G-d Almighty Kaveyochel says Kadish for them

Not surprised, but something is fishy here.
Some organizations are not what they were when our parents, post holocaust survivors were running them and those prior to them.
Be wary of where you donate.
Some are just takers but not givers!!!
When you visit Eretz Yisroel do your inquiries and you may be shocked at what you hear from ehrlich people.

To the hanchos at kollel shomrei hachomos. Do yourselfs a favor and hire a PR firm to clean up your mess caused by the ad for the creation of a fund for grossman, because for some this was a nail in the coffin for this charity.and just to say it was a mistake is kind baby talk. Obviosly, there was this idea but got nixed because of the flack you were getting.

Regardless if the Kolel made a mistake in thinking funds can be raised by the grossman affair. Kolel Shomrei Hachomas is accepted by the greatest of Rabbonim and Rosh Hayeshivos and Balei Batim as a holy and most worthy tzedokah. I can attest from the time I lived in Yerushalayim, that they distribute enormous sums of money during the year and especially before the yomim tovim. Chag kosher v’someach.

Hopefully, this will stop the Grossman meshugaas that had yiddin making a martyr over this rashaa and convicted murderer. With all the truly needy yiddin who lead quiet lives and are shomrei torah umitzvot, why do we have this sudden focus on making heroes out of the Grossmans, Rubashkins, Dweks etc.??

can anyone please explain the need to send money to Israel, don’t these people have jobs,
could it be that originally, 200 years ago, it was important to support small number of Talmidei Chachomim learning, and now generations have been paralyzed and corrupted by not being self-supported, most are not learning
Please correct me if I’m wrong

STARKE – Martin Grossman was declared dead at 6:17 p.m. at the Florida state prison in Starke, 15 minutes after the start of his execution by lethal injection.
In a final statement, Grossman expressed remorse to the family of Peggy Park, the Florida wildlife officer he beat and shot to death more than 25 years ago.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt remorse to the victim’s family,” Grossman said. “I fully regret everything that happened that night, everything that was done, whether I remember everything or not. I accept responsibility.”
“I would like to say a prayer,” the 45-year-old man added, then, lying on a gurney, hands strapped to arm boards and with needles in both arms, he began reciting a Jewish prayer called the Schma.
It is the most sacred prayer in Judaism and the first prayer that Jewish children learn. Among its verses: “The Lord is our God, God is one.”

The critical question is the credibility of Shomre Hachomos. Is this organization, to which I contribute $1500 annually, a trustworthy group? Can they still be counted upon to be honest with other people’s money? It is of serious concern to me for I am ready to immediately cease donating to them. I do not want to be told that the Satmar rebbe held them to be great. The Satmar Rebbe and those running the organziations back then were more ehrlich than what we have today. So I dont want to hear as a defense ploy that the Satmar Rebbe and Hungarian/Chassidishe rebbes supported this group. It is totally worthless and spitworthy.

Bottom Line: Can Kolel Shomre Hachomos come out of this scandal stain-free?

    To #5 ,8,22,24,36,44,46,47,49,50,51,65,67 and especially 23,
Here’s my question:Al Pi Torah, Grossman , BEFORE doing teshuva, was first and foremost a murderer who happened to be Jewish or was he primarily a jew who once did a murder? There are many stories of kapos in concentration camps who gave up their lives last minute and not turn on a Jew or to not turn AGAIN on a Jew.We hope our teshuva will be accepted, so why judge others?

It is not a must to bestow titles on him, but do we have a concept of the power of teshuva?how much do we believe?Time to read mussar or chasidus about emunah in teshuva, the status of a Nashama Elokis
As far as the fund in his name is concerned, well, many people were anxious together with him and disappointed when the Governor refused our request, he had a massive levaya because many people needed closure, chizuk and an explanation of the event which they were hoping to get from the hespedim. A fund in his name would be an outlet and inspiration for those who so badly hoped to save a Jewish life – as we are supposed to.What a shame that the Kollel has to bow to people devoid of da’as Torah. Like it or not,Da’as ba’al habayis is contrary to da’as Torah!

Still looking for my previous post, though..
    A few more things:
take Rabi Elozor ben Duraya who did not leave one prostitute in the world that he didn’t visit. He did teshuva right before he died and it was accepted.Am I saying that it is EXACTLY the same here? no, but don’t underestimate ANY teshuva coming from a brother Jew.

and as to why people don’t make a fund for bochurim killed in accidents, victims of child molestation, etc.?Look, people don’t have to be told over there that they deserve something done on their behalf, but recently with this episode, many Yidden have sent a message that a Yid is a Yid, no matter where he falls. and there is no such concept of an “unimportant yid”, especially if he did teshuva.

What does “erroneously placed” mean? Were they hoping that nobody woudl catch it. I am confused. WHat did KSH have in mind when they placed that ad in the paper. And if they did not place that ad in the paper, then who did. THe fact that KSH is not suing whoever placed that ad is proof that KSH placed that ad in the paper. If so, KSH has a lot of answering to do to the frum community
