New York, NY - Rush Limbaugh Makes Racist Quip About Governor Paterson |
|
New York, NY - Rush Limbaugh is drawing ire for a racist (and factually inaccurate) comment he made about Gov. David Paterson on the heels of the resignation of New York Congressman Eric Massa.
Rosh said David Paterson will be playing “massa” if he appoints Massa’s replacement. The comment was a reference to slavemasters and Paterson is African-American.
“So, David Paterson will become the massa ... who gets to appoint whoever gets to take Massa’s place,” Limbaugh said, “So, for the first time in his life, Paterson’s gonna be a massa. Interesting, interesting.”
Except, Paterson does not have the power to appoint a replacement to Massa.
Want to hear how it all went down?
CALLER: Yeah. Hey, listen. Interesting sidebar to that Eric Massa mess for Democrats. You know, our besieged governor, David Paterson, will be charged with naming a replacement for Massa. And I’m wondering if there’s any chance, do you think that Paterson…
RUSHLIMBAUGH: Wait a minute.
CALLER: ...will exact some revenge on Obama, Emanuel, Cuomo, the whole Democratic gulag, by appointing a Republican or, at the very least, a DINO - a Democrat in name only?
LIMBAUGH: Are you sure that Paterson appoints or is there a special election?
CALLER: I am reasonably sure that Paterson will be appointing the replacement, assuming that he, you know, doesn’t resign in the next 60 or 90 days.
LIMBAUGH: Let’s assume you’re right. So, David Paterson will become the massa…
CALLER: Yes.
LIMBAUGH: ...who gets to appoint whoever gets to take Massa’s place. So, for the first time in his life, Paterson’s gonna be a massa. Interesting, interesting.

I also made this quip about Massa's name. I don't think this is a big deal. He's just having fun with a strange name. Limbaugh doesn't think all black people are still slaves serving their masters (massas)

Get off his case. Listen to what he said in context. Stop with this racist nonsense. Rush is not racist - period!

This article is so distorted.
Rush said this based on the caller saying it was possible: "Let's assume you're right...."
Rush did not say factually that this could happen - he even questioned if it is done by special election.
Unbelievable how incapable people are in using their own heads!

Funny picture, especially since Rush never wears a necktie. I once heard him say that he believes G-d didn't put him in this world to be choked by a necktie.

Much ado about nothing. A few weeks ago they had fried chicked, poke chops, Black eyed peas, and watermelon, in honor of black history month. The irony was, they only did it to mimic the lunch menu in the ABC cafeteria that had the same fare in honor of black history month.

The author of the news brief is probably not as intelligent as Rush Limbaugh as evidenced by his failure to note that R.B. inorder to make a point, he allowed for the possibility that Paterson has the authority to name a replacement to fill Massa's vacant seat. The author is furthermore deemed stupid by falling into a trap that RB frequently uses to enrage liberals and thus gain notoriety for himself that translates into increased attention and money. He's laughing all the way to the bank and we (millions upon millions of regular Americans) cheer him on all the way. By the way, one of RB's longest serving and closest associates on the show is a black man and only someone trying to take a cheap pot-shot would assume that RB would insult his colleague by employing some crass racist comment. I wish to G-d there was a Rush Limbaugh on the airwaves in Eretz Yisroel.

Wow... I couldn't agree more. Put him on with Joe Scarborough and Chris Wallace and we might actually start to see some honesty return to the political debate.

So you accept his frequent lies, and that he exists not to inform people or provide news, but to say ANYTHING to get more listeners and make more money? I get that he is pro-Israel, but he lies so often and never apologizes when caught. He is not respectable or intelligent. He is an uneducated man who was the protege of "Morton Downy Jr." (and took his place when he retired). MD Jr. was a repulsive vulgar man who used the same kind of tactics to fool stupid people into listening to him. His TV show would frequently feature fist fights and include members of the KKK, etc... ANYTHING for shock value. Limbaugh has 100% followed in his footsteps in perfecting "infotainment". Truth is not required (to his credit, Rush does not claim to be a journalist or adhere to any journalistic standards of truth). All that matters is that the words keep people listening. 2 days ago, Rush Limbaugh vowed to make a “national story” out of Massa’s claims that Dems orchestrated his downfall for voting no on health care reform. It was nearly his whole day's story! He didn't care if it was true. He could say the right words and make the ignorant masses keep listening... sad that Jews fall for it.

It just goes to show how ignorant Limbaugh can be. Patterson already appointed one replacement for the Senate, Gillibrand! If he was educated enough to know that, he'd know that Patterson could appoint a replacement for Massa.

This is very interesting, let me get this, Rush is responding skeptically to a caller, and as he says specifically, "lets 'assume' you are right". Yet, this story is written as if it was Rush's statement, I wonder what the motive of the writer of this article is?

Mar 11, 2010 at 09:13 AM A Little Intelligence, please! Says:Report as Inappropriate
It would be nice if people thought before they commented.
1. Rush Limbaugh has his own line of ties.
2.A Congressman is not a Senator. A Senator represents the population of an entire State while a Congressman represents the population of a District. There is no comparison between the two when it comes to special elections or replacements. It might make sense for a Govenor, who represents the population of the entire State to appoint a successor to a Senator. That doesn't mean that it makes sense that he do so for a Congressman since the Govenor does not havethe sole interests of that District in mind.
3. While it is true that the article states that Rush doesn't know the rules for succession and the transcript clearly shows that he didn't agree with the caller in that regard, that's not the point. The point is that he used a slur that we would all be screaming about if he used an analogous one about Jews. I'm about as conservative as they come, yet, I can't dismiss this issue just because Rush was the one who said it. If this was a story about Al Franken saying the exact same words, we would be falling over each other in our attempts to lambaste him.
Wake up people,
A little intelligence, please.

How about some responsible journalism? You don't have to like Rush and you can even attempt to say that his comment was racist (I disagree), but clearly his comment was not "factually inaccurate". As for the picture, are you guys really that pathetic?

Before you complain about the intelligence of others perhaps you should do some research first. In this case point #2 is wrong. A congressman can be either a senator or a representative. I agree that in modern parlance we use the word "congressman" for representative. However, Congress has two main parts, those being the Senate and the House of Representatives. A member of the House of Representatives should properly be referred to as "Representative", but technically both "Representatives" and "Senators" are "Congressmen".
Google the article on Wikipedia.

Rush can't debate anyone... that's why he typically doesn't have people on his show. In order to successfully debate, you have to have facts, not opinions. Limbaugh is not now, nor has he ever been interested in facts. How can you debate someone else if the premise is not factual, but mere opinion or perception. That makes no sense.
As for Savage, why would he "pulverize" them? All 3 play for the same team. Unlike Wallace and Scarborough who are newsmen, Savage is an opinion guy (although he is much more concerned with facts than Limbaugh). I think it would make for honest discussion of FACTS with a streak of opinion through it. To me, that would make great TV or radio.
