Grandmother Grows Mystery HornGrandmother Grows Mystery Horn

Henan, China - An elderly Chinese woman has stunned her family and fellow villagers by growing from her forehead a horn than resembles a goat’s.

Grandmother Zhang Ruifang, 101, of Linlou village, Henan province, began developing the mysterious protrusion last year.
Since then it has grown 2.4in in length and another now appears to emerging on the other side of the mother of seven’s forehead.

The condition has left her family baffled and worried.

Her youngest of six sons, Zhang Guozheng, 60, said when a patch of rough skin formed on her forehead last year ‘we didn’t pay too much attention to it’.
‘But as time went on a horn grew out of her head and it is now 6cm long,’ added Mr Zhang, whose eldest brother and sibling is 82 years old.

‘Now something is also growing on the right side of her forehead. It’s quite possible that it’s another horn.’

Although, it is unknown what the protrusion is on Mrs Zhang’s head, it resembles a cutaneous horn.

This is a funnel-shaped growth and although most are only a few millimetres in length, some can extend a number of inches from the skin.

Cutaneous horns are made up of compacted keratin, which is the same protein we have in our hair and nails, and forms horns, wool and feathers in animals.

They usually develop in fair-skinned elderly adults who have a history of significant sun exposure but it is extremely unusual to see it form protrusions of this size.

The growths are most common in elderly people, aged between 60 and the mid-70s. They can sometimes be cancerous but more than half of cases are benign.

Common underlying causes of cutaneous horns are common warts, skin cancer and actinic keratoses, patches of scaly skin that develop on skin exposed to the sun, such as your face, scalp or forearms.
Cutaneous horns can be removed surgically but this does not treat the underlying cause.

are you seriously saying that its ok to make fun of someone as long as they dont know about it? i certainly hope that you dont have children, because that is a HORRIBLE lesson to teach.
as for the rest of you making fun of this poor woman, i am ashamed to be associated with such people. what would you say if she was a bubby? i bet there would be no biting remarks then.

All these negative comments, are so shocking...Is this what we as frum yidden are supposed to think let alone put into words....a little rachmanus goes a long way. We have enough tzoros within our close knit enclave. You people forgot the tsaar of parents whose chlld slipped on black ice this winter....the tsaar of parents who buried their child 2 days after his wedding...the soaring # of young divorces in every frum neighborhood....Instead of all these disgusting comments, why not put your energies into visiting young cancer patients, lo aleinu, in hospitals, & maybe then you'll have a different attitude towards people whether they are Chinese etc...We are born with Tzelem Elokim; it doesn';t behoove us to think or write these disgusting comments...Shame!

I agree with those that are appalled at the "humorous" comments here. They are not funny at all.
One of the 3 Simanim of a Yid is Rachmanus and it's missing in many posts here. What if she was Jewish? People would be dividing Sefer Tehillim for her and be giving money for a fund to get her the best treatment possible. That is beautiful.
But you know what? She may not be Jewish but she's Hashem's creation just as well. A poor helpless women who hasn't done any harm to any of us. All we should have for her is Rachmanus, not distasteful comments lacking compassion and certainly humor.

Thank you for one of the most decent comments on this womens situation. Allow me to add that one does not need to be a frum Jew to realize the wrong words that many are using.

Let's not put the blame for these horrible and disrepectful comments on our Yeshivas, it's obviously our homes. It's the PARENT'S responsibility to teach respect for others through not only our words but out actions. The Yeshiva's are responsible for REINFORCING proper behavior that WE are responsible for instilling in our children.

Yes you can certanly find it amusing. However that doesn't mean that you have to share your amusement with others. Respect takes many forms, and showing respect on the internet on a board like this is as important as showing it in person.
