Berlin - Germany Fights to Keep Holocaust Organizer's Files Sealed |
|
Berlin, Germany - Those hoping to have a 50-year secrecy order overturned believe the government is embarrassed by details within that may prove German and Vatican officials colluded in his escape and freedom.
The secrecy order is being challenged in a benchmark court case against the BND, Germany’s domestic intelligence service, which wants the 4,500 pages of documents on Adolf Eichmann to remain out of the public domain. The service claims that intelligence agencies in other countries will be “frightened off” in future data-sharing if they are disclosed, Der Spiegel reported.
Critics believe this is a smokescreen designed to avoid official embarrassment both in Berlin and the Vatican. It is well documented that German Bishop Alois Hudal in Rome operated postwar “Ratlines,” getting passports for wanted Nazis to allow them to escape justice.
Franz Stangl, commandant of the Treblinka extermination camp, admitted to British Nazi expert Gitta Sereny that Hudal helped him get away after the Nazi defeat in 1945.
Eichmann also escaped. He was the ultimate “desk murderer” of the Third Reich who, as head of department IVB4 of the SS in Berlin, was responsible for the trains that carried millions to their deaths at extermination centres in Nazi occupied Poland.
After the war he was captured but fled from Allied custody. As the victors scoured Europe and the world for the top officials of the regime, Eichmann’s name was barely known: it was only as more and more details of the Holocaust emerged that his pivotal role in it began to dawn on Nazi hunters.
For 15 years he lived, sometimes under his own name, in Argentina, raising his family while working at a VW car plant. In 1960, acting on a tip-off, a Mossad team was despatched to Buenos Aires with orders to kidnap him and bring him back to Israel for trial. He was seized, stood trial, found guilty and hanged on May 31 1962.
Now the Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig, Germany, is studying the files about his getaway from Europe and life in Argentina to decide if they should be made public. The application for their release was made by German journalist Gabriele Weber.
The BND maintains that secrecy is necessary because “much of the information contained in the files was provided by an unnamed foreign intelligence service.” If released, the BND argues, it would “deter” other nations from sharing intelligence with Germany in the future.
But critics believe what the files will really reveal are the levels of assistance, succour and turning a blind eye to Nazi fugitives from officials in defeated Germany, together with details of Vatican assistance to top Nazis like him.
A decision on whether to release the files will be made in the next few weeks.

I don't see a problem about knowing who . It was a broad medley of Germans , including some industrialists, the tacit consent of church hirarchy, and a broad coalition of East Europeans and South Europeans , Croatia. Hyedrich, Borman, Himmler and ultimately Church men like Bishop Draganovic a Croatian Catholic Bishop and Alois Hudal an Austrian bishop organized the escape of Mengele, Eichmann and a slew of other war criminals to South America. Kaltenbrunner the head of Einsatztruppen diligently saw to it that all women, children and mean in Galicia are shot to death by the Einsatztruppen and in Nuernberg when Judge Musmanno [Amrican] asked why the children and his answer eventually they will be adult Jews. This may leave out some details but the joyful participation of Austrian SS, Latvian, Lithuanian SS and the Ustashi is a historical fact. Today is the date when I as an 11 year old boy in 1938 started to live until 1945. Quite a feat and as Rabbi Weisbord from Ner Yisroel that the neiss is not that I put on tefillin but that I am normal, quite true

Files have a way of disappearing. The Germans will never give up those files because they are ashamed of their Fascist history and want to sweep it under the carpet. The problematic thing is they keep finding mass graves all over the place: the dead men want their story told!

The fact that that the Vatican colluded in the escape of many high ranking Nazis is the one thing that makes the today's Vatican claim of saintliness for the Pope of WWII so difficult. If this record was to be made public, the Vatican would be left with egg on its face.

I fear that too much pressure on them about this will only cause resentment and inflame anti-semitism against us. We already know the truth. It's not necessary to keep shoving it in their faces. Let the Aibeshter take care of them.

Bishop Hudal helped Stangl, Eichman , Alois Brunner, Gustav Wagner, possibly Mengele, and others escape. He provided them with money, safe houses and red cross passports. He was Austrian and was particularly helpful in helping the Austrian Nazis escape. Unfortunately, so few Jews know anything about this. I guarantee you barely anyone knows who Stangl, Wagner and Brunner are.

The organizations most responsible in the escape are the International Red Cross in Geneva who issued travel documents to Nazis and ODESSA Organization der ehemaligen SS Angehoerige and men like Dulles who hired SS General Gehlen of course the Vatican

@2:
You're a fool and clearly have no clue about the Germany of today.
No other country has ever done as much to redress the wrongs of the past as Germany has for the crimes committed by Nazi Germany.
For people to look at this story and claim that Germany is trying to 'cover up' things is plain ridiculous. Their bloody history is there for all the world to see and Germany has no interest in covering up anything.
Here's suggestion: Go and read up on the Holocaust curriculums in Germany, the endless stream of apologies by successive German Chancellors, the unwavering support for Israel, the endless flow of reparation. Then maybe you can claim to have a clue.

I wish I would be ignorant in this subject . You read about them but I saw Brunner in action in Vienna , Morzinplatz, location of the Gestapo. His speciality deportation of children and he deported the Jews from Thessalonika. He was born in Burgenland and later the Mossad tried to kill him in Syria, unsuccesfully. Stangl another Austrian was the commandant of Treblinka. I wish you would be the chochim and I the amoretz, leider I saw more than can be written about it.

To Mr Buchwalter, you are commenter no #1, so the person (#8) criticizing no #2 was not talking about you.
To #5, you remind me about the joke where husband and wife are about to be shot and are asked if they have any last requests. The husband says he would like a last cigarette and the wife says 'Yankel, don't make trouble".

Sir you are confused my response was top "know it all" . Those mentioned Brunner operated in Vienna where I lived and Stangl was commandant of treblinka and Wagner is also an Austrian . My response strictly referred to those entries
