New York - The calls for Gov. David Paterson’s immediate resignation may have ceased for the moment, but former Mayor Ed Koch nevertheless continues to believe it’s just a matter of time before the embattled governor throws in the towel, the DN’s Glenn Blain reports.

“I believe what’s impeding the resignation is how to figure out a way to protect him from prosecution after he leaves since there’s no current indictment,” Koch said this morning during a lengthy interview on WGDJ AM Talk 1300.

“But they will find a way, I am sure, and I think that’s the only thing…So, I’m off by maybe a week or two, but there’s no question in my mind he will resign.”

Koch stressed he has no “inside information” on the situation, nevertheless remains convinced that Paterson will soon be gone.

Interestingly, Koch said he has no problem with one of the most serious issues confronting Paterson: His seeking of World Series tickets from the Yankees, although he did have a problem with Paterson allegedly lying to the Public Integrity Commission.

“The city owns, the government owns, Yankees Stadium and when a governor or a mayor goes to see a game, it is to enhance the city, not to bring children or members of your extended family, but I don’t see anything wrong with going to a game without having to pay for it,” Koch said.

“I don’t believe that the highest elected official of the state of New York should be held accountable for going to the game and not paying for it. I do believe he should be held accountable if he didn’t tell the truth.”

The former mayor applauded AG Andrew Cuomo’s decision to hand his investigations of the Paterson administration over to former Chief Judge Judith Kaye, although he said he had urged the selection of former Manhattan DA Bob Morgenthau instead.

????
I'm not sure what you're able to hear or why, but E.K. is in his mid 80s, and in poor health. He is neither in need, nor looking to a get, a job.

Sure, Koch wanted Morgenthau to investigate! Morgenthau, who is 90 years old. No, Ed, you're all fahdreit. Morgenthau should be playing shortstop for the Mets, not investigating Paterson's actions.

Dictator? Don't people have to listen to you to be a dictator?

I'd call him the Rodney Dangerfield of NYS politics.
