The banners were unfurled by fans of Resovia Rzeszow during a match Saturday against local rival Stala Rzeszow. One depicted a caricatured man with a large hooked nose wearing a striped yarmulke, a Jewish skullcap, in the blue-and-white colours of the opposing team. Those are also the colours of the Israeli flag and the skullcap’s pattern evoked the striped prison garb worn by some prisoners at Auschwitz.

A second large banner read: “Death to the Hooked Noses.”

Polish media reported that ahead of the game, fans marched through the city with a banner that said “The Aryan hordes are coming.”

Police say in a statement that they detained five Rzeszow residents and charged two of them under a law banning public incitement against ethnic or religious groups.

Poland’s football federation also banned Resovia Rzeszow fans from attending the team’s games through the end of the season.

The Anti-Defamation League, a U.S. group that fights anti-Semitism, said it welcomed both the arrests and the punitive measure taken by the football federation.

Earlier in the week, the group condemned the incident, saying it was especially troubling given that only 700 of the 15,000 Jews who lived in Rzeszow before World War II survived the death camps that Nazi Germany set up on Polish soil.

“Jews were starved and executed in Rzeszow’s ghetto, which was later transformed into a concentration camp for the region,” the group said. “Some were sent to nearby death camps, while others were shot in the forest. Calling for death to Jews on the same spot cannot go unpunished.”

Yimoch shimom v’zicrum!!! Polish are not a new enemy of the Jews. they’ve hated us all the time and even helped out a lot in the killing of Jews during WWII. they were the main killers   Babi Yar . but please every body don’t stop supporting the polish cleaning women by giving them jobs, so like that they have money to send back to Poland to there momzairim, so they wont starve. the only difference between a polish and Spanish cleaning woman is that the polish clean the floor on there hands and knees. Is that a reason to support them?????? Ha’tzad hashuva shebuhem = they are both ganuvim the polish on just does it with out a guilty conscience.

It’s good for Yidden to see the real enemy for a change, instead of always attacking other Jews.

Were they playing against an Israeli soccer team? I just don’t get why anyone would pull out a massive antisemitic banner to a random soccer game where there aren’t even Jews around.

Does anybody really believe that two gigantic banners were the product of just five people?

What there’s anti-Semitism in Poland?! But how can that be? There are no frum people on school boards and Chasidim don’t keep on building shuls and yeshivas there to aggravate these people. There must be a mistake here. Don’t believe the picture!

Jealous on Poland? Are you kiding? Jealous on what? What do thay have?

And the reason we overreact is, because we try to thing that Poland’s ansamtizem is history, but unfortunately its not.

I will say, that a lot of poles are problay not like that.

    Hi,

I’m really shocked with this “Death Wish for Jews sign” that was displayed by your fans. I really thought our 2 peoples made headway in the last 60 years.

Why didn’t the players react to it?

There are almost no Jews in Poland; so obviously you can’t blame us for your problems anymore, or can you?

This is the same country where they want to chnage the wording at Auschwitz from “Polish concentration camp” to:
“German concentration camp on Polish Soil”. I think it’s fine the way it is. The Germans could not have done what they did without the complicity of millions of Poles that handed over their Jewish neighbors to certain death. There is no lower people on the face of the Earth.
