Tampa, FL - Order Of Protection Granted Against Father For Using "Bad Yiddish Words" |
|
Tampa, FL - In what is perhaps a legal precedent, a Florida District Court of Appeals granted an order of protection against domestic violence against a man who allegedly used “bad Yiddish words” in front his daughter. What makes this order of protection so unusual is the fact that the daughter does not completely understand Yiddish.
P. requested the order of protection for her daughter against her husband, H., during the time the couple was undergoing divorce proceedings, alleging that he stalked their daughter and used inappropriate words in the presence of the child, albeit in a language that she did not understand. The court sided with P. and granted the order of protection.
After the divorce settlement, including visitation rights for the daughter, became finalized, H. appealed the order of protection. P. agreed that the order of protection was no longer necessary and it was thrown out by the court on May 14 2010.

Portia Weiss was absolutely right in getting an order of protection. This man should not be allowed to see his daughter at all if he uses bad language. Even though she doesn't understand Yiddish, kids can quite easily find out what those words mean.

Inappropriate language is inappropriate language no matter what "language" it is in. It is what it is. If he is using abusive, insulting, or sexual language in front of his child that is problem. Whether or not he is really doing it is another story.

Sadly, you may be right. Even if the woman is sincere, because enough of them acted exactly as you describe, she is vulnerable to suspicion.
Also, the fact that the girl doesn't understand yiddish doesn't count for anything. I know this family where the parents didn't teach their kids to speak yiddish because they didn't want their young children to be easily identifiable as jewish. But, at the same time, the parents would switch to yiddish whenever they wanted to discuss something they didn't want children to understand. So, you guessed it. The kids learned to understand yiddish in a hurry. To this day these three kids (they are actually around my age) can't really speak yiddish but understand it reasonably well.

I know that the Yiddish words as well as the English ones spoken by this man aren't those of love, encouragement, care, concern, or in a nuturing manner toward his child or to anyone! To tell a child in Yiddish or English that she is "dumb" "stupid" or an "idot" is pure abuse. Therefore verbal abuse and emotional abuse is just as harmful as physicial abuse. It just happens this man is a healthcare professonal and will buy his way out of anything to prove his innocense. Its's a shame that he couldnt straighten up his act as a medical professional ,father or husband to get help for his issues to save his marriage. I don't believe it was in error for the wife, I believe the system that has two seperate courts one being Family Court and the other being Domestic Violence Court were in error. The mother is simply another victim of this horrific man, his lies, violence and abuse. He has no compassion to call such a young child ANY names in English or Yiddish. Therfore I feel that the wife was correct in trying to protect her child from this man's venomous mouth. I reward her efforts.

Yes, I have kids, and no I don't think name calling them builds confidence or self esteem. I believe you need a reality check into your own life and childhood that you call me such a name of "idiot" not knowing me, let alone a chid, your child pr any child. I feel pity for your child, any human being, that has to tolerate such behavior from you. If I was the exwife I would make sure to prove your emotionally & verbally abusive.

I think ALL courts should consider emotional, verbal and mental abuse just as serious as physical abuse, but they don't and it's the most damaging. This young chilld who attends a Hebrew school simply told her teacher what her father called her, amazed by the teacher she told the mother and the mother was correct to file an injunction. It's sad that the courts can't keep this child from permenant emotional abuse from this monsterof a father.
