Nanaimo, BC, Canada – Anti-Semitic Graffiti Upsets Family

Nanaimo, BC, Canada – Jola Berkman is angry and her family scared after they came home to discover someone had written anti-Semitic comments outside her house, etched on the sidewalk opposite her driveway with sidewalk chalk.
She said she was pretty sure the remarks and drawings were aimed at her family, because they are the only Jewish family on Corfu Drive, an upscale neighbourhood in north Nanaimo off Dover Road.
Berkman said the neighbourhood is home to many minorities and finds it strange that one minority would be targeted on the block. “When we came back we were told by three neighbours that it had happened,” she said. “Apparently Kill the Jews was written, there was a swastika and the other thing was there was a stick man with a noose around his neck.”

One of the group of kids who took part in the graffiti did admit to being a part of it and apologized, but Berkman said the teen could give her no explanation why he or the others did it.
