On Tuesday, a fire charred the home of Rabbi Rafi Rosenberg’s, near 20th Court and 18th Avenue. The blaze reportedly began because of a candle, (as was reported earlier today here on VIN News). Most of the family was inside the home at the time of the fire.

An anonymous donor offered a new home to the Rosenberg family until their home is fully repaired. “It’s beautiful, really beautiful,” Rosenberg said of the home.

The new home is also equipped with a Kosher-friendly kitchen for the family. “Small two bedroom, or something like that,” said Rosenberg. “We’d cramp in and camp out. My family, they’re sports. They can do that. But here, we’re going to live like it’s a home.”

Residents also donated clothing to Rosenberg’s eight children. Camila Landman was one of the donors. “People are trying to bring the best they can,” she said. “We’ve known them for so many years, and they’re so caring of us when we need them, so now, we need to support them when they need us.”

This is not the first time the rabbi has dealt with hardship. A few years ago, his temple was burned down. Rosenberg was overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of others. “It’s huge what people have done for us,” he said. “I do my best to be generous and to help out, and I’ve really given my life to help other people, but this is just beyond anything I could expect.”

According to Rabbi Rosenberg, his wife and children are temporarily staying with relatives.

The Rosenberg family is scheduled to move into the new house next week.

Rosenberg said, he plans to rebuild his damaged home and hopes to move back into the home within the next few months.

While it’s very nice that the donor gave a house for the family to stay in for free why can’t the family rent a place to live. A standard homeowner’s insurance policy covers loss of use while their home is being repaired/built.

This took place in North Miami Beach. I’m from there so tonight someone told me they read that someone lent a home to the Rosenbergs and at first I was trying to think of who it could be and the beautiful thing is that there’s no way to know… because I was sure it was a certain family… but then I was sure about a bunch of families. It could have been a number of people. I love NMB! The donor should only see mazal and brachos and only nachas in their family’s life! Tizku L’mitzvos

While this is very nice and I’m happy for the family, once again the parochialism and self-regard on this site astounds me. Comments like “Mi K’amcha Yisroel” or “the chesed in klal yisroel is unbelievable” reveal such a skewed view of the outside world — it’s as if we think charitable acts and kindness are alien concepts to non-Jews. Every single day we can read and hear of non-Jewish individuals and communities performing tremendous acts of chesed in all types of situations. But it seems so much of our identity as frum Jews — so much of our self-perception and chizuk and even kiruv — has come more and more to revolve around telling ourselves how “good” we are and how “bad” they are. In a recent book called “Mitzvah Girls,” the author spent time observing classes in girls’ schools in Brooklyn and gives example after example of how the lessons in class and the remarks of the teachers seemed mostly to involve making negative remarks about goyim rather than positive remarks about Torah, as a way of contrasting Jews and non-Jews. Those of us who learned in heimishe yeshivos know exactly what the author is talking about.

I am sorry, but this whole argument is ludicrous. This is not about who gives more or less. Goyim give charity – Boruch H’ and good for them, who’s arguing? The fact that statistics consistently show that Yidden give many times more proportionally than all others is *not* relevant here. As I’m sure one can easily imagine how an old Irish lady making 15K/yr quietly donating a 1K of her savings to a local soup kitchen is of greater significance than someone making billions donating 5 Mil while getting his name on the building and a big tax receipt. On the other hand, a kleine yingele putting a penny in a pushkah every morning farn davenen may be worth much more than that Irish lady together with the billonnaire.

The argument is against those who find it embarrassing when Jews rejoice at good news and seeing that our People are involved in gmilus chassodim. What’s wrong with “mi K’amcho Yisroel”??? Zug mir. If someone finds this posuk too offensive – why don’t they take this up with the Author?

Yashar Koach to Chabad of Boca Raton, FL Rabbi Denberg and Rabbi Kessler. They both should be donating over $100,000 to the Skylake Chabad to help Rabbi Rosenberg and his family recover from the fire. They should be doing so for the beatings that have happened in the Boca Raton Chabad over the past year and the other problems that have befallen the Congregants of that Shul over the past year. Yashar Koach Rabbi Denberg and Rabbi Kessler !!! Tzeddakah maavirin es roah hagazeirah.
