Jerusalem - American Hit in anti-Israeli Protest Loses Eye |
21-year old Emily Henochowicz was hit in the face with a tear gas projectile fired by an Israeli soldier during the demonstration at Qalandiya checkpoint todayJerusalem - An American woman has lost her eye during a demonstration in Jerusalem against Israel’s naval raid on a Gaza aid flotilla, a hospital official said Tuesday.
Emily Henochowicz, 21, of Maryland, underwent surgery after suffering the injury, said hospital spokeswoman Yael Bossem-Levy.
Henochowicz was hit in the face by a tear gas canister shot by an Israeli border policeman, said witness Jonathan Pollak.
He said Palestinian youths were hurling rocks, but Henochowicz didn’t participate in any violence and was standing at a distance.
There was no immediate military comment.
In a Facebook message to The Associated Press, Sarah Henochowicz said the family would have no comment about her sister, calling it “a private matter.”
On her Facebook page, Emily Henochowicz’s current city is listed as Ramallah, West Bank, and her latest posting on Monday read: “Gaza on my Mind.” Her page says she is a student at Cooper Union, a college in New York, and Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design.
On another page, a posting said: “A message from Emily’s sister Sarah Henochowicz: This is to notify everyone concerned about my sister Emily. The surgery was successful and she is currently recuperating in Hadassah Hospital. Thank you for your kind words and support, my family and I greatly appreciate it. Her father is by her side and will bring her ... home as soon as she is able to travel.’”
A Palestinian woman reacts as she holds a cloth to the bleeding face of an American activist who was wounded during clashes with Israeli troops at the Kalandia checkpoint between the West Bank city of Ramallah and Jerusalem, Monday, May 31, 2010. The clashes erupted during a protest against Israeli naval commandos on Monday storming a Gaza-bound flotilla of ships, that left at least 10 passengers dead, and dozens of activists and at least 10 Israeli soldiers wounded. She wasn't so innocent. On her Facebook page, Emily Henochowicz's current city is listed as Ramallah, West Bank, and her latest posting on Monday read: "Gaza on my Mind." Gaza was on her mind, not the murder of thousands of innocent Jewish children. Hope she does Teshuva and has a refuah sheleima and regains her eyesight and sees the light.

sadly & sickly ,the worst anti-semites are jews like these. who 'fight for fairness & equality & 'better life' & wtv for the arabs,' when they dont care abt their own brethren. what kind of 'jewish parents',religious or not raise such children r'l?!she's messed up!
Israel should have visa requirements for jews who want to 'travel or live' on the arab side. let them transfer her to an 'arab country ' and hospital.what do the arabs do to their own ppl?!Let them 'help' to improve the relations btwn arab countries for their so called 'brethern' . they couldnt give a hoot abt their own!
Yesh din v'yesh dayan - this happened , but Hashem caused it, unfortunatly we were the messengers ,better had it been the other side , like if she got caught up in a messed up bombing or the like , the arabs usual.you get what u deserve. If this doesn't wake her up that she's on the wrong side, nothing will!

The photo speaks quite loudly, despite all the politics of the moment -if that were possible. Of course this is a photo-op for the Palestinian woman to display an exxagerated nurturing moment -and for a supposed Jew nonetheless, but it does inspire as to what life could be -especially if there was no political motive in the scene -just legitimate individual and cultural differences between strangers addressed with respect. If only.

Even the most passionately pro-israeli commentators are asking why EY didn't anticipate the scenario where they would have to deal with agressive resistance by these misguided peace activists, why they thought a dozen or so commandos could control a ship with 600 passengers, why they didn't use one of several options for disabling these vessels in the open seas so they would have to be towed back to their homoe ports etc. I'm totally in support of the embargo but this will turn into a PR nightmare that will cost EY much more than they ever would have gained from stopping these ships.

While I do not gloat over the loss of this woman's eye, i have to note there are considerably less posts when rabid, left wing, self hating, Jews demonstrate, then when the ultra orthodox demonstrate. I can only assume that that is because those who post against the ultra orthodox find some measure of justification for the left wingers whose belief system is obviously close to their own hearts as opposed to when the ultra orthodox demonstrate for Torah principals that they cannot relate to.

So many comments. Yet not one even thinks to tread upon the reason of WHY this may have happened! Everything is straight from the one above. The girl and her eye were probably more of a voice for all of US to open OUR EYES! I would imagine that a lot of us do things with our eyes on a daily basis that are worst than her standing in the thick of a bunch of lunatics. Her neshama was already tainted. Ours are not. While I am not a prophet and G-d forbid am i trying to act like the judge of all, I do take away from this incident that it is very important that we should all be careful what we use our eyes for. If just one of us are a little more careful of what we use or eyes for than her loss was worth it.

Because their Koran instructs them "to kill infidels and Jews"! That is who this oysvorf is supporting who never demonstrated at the bus terrorism in Israel.
But we Jews also believe "binfoyl oyvecha loi tismach" That is the torah way. So we must wish her a refuah sheleimah despite what shomayim will pay her also. Everyone in the end gets what they deserve from Hashem!

That's the problem. Too many people think "an eye for an eye" means monetary comp. It does not. Hashem was quite specific in Torah as to what the punishments should be. His plan was deterrence. I'll bet anything that at least one of the injured ISF soldiers or Navy commandos has lost an eye even tho the injury details haven't been published.

The only reason you have no rachmonos on this girl is because you have to be right politically, no matter what. And no, not all arabs have a din Rodef and not all are terrorists. Even though, I politically agree with most bloggers on this site, the only difference between me and you is - I put Torah principles before my nehgios of my politics. One of them is to be "Dan l'caf Zecus" this non-frum girl.

“ The name sounds jewish, I really doubt that she was just an innocent person standing at the side, from her comments on facebook it sounds like she was part of the demonstration and self hating jew, I'm not saying she was a violent or peacefull one... ”

Neither Emily nor the NK's are tinoke shenishbos. People who give support, be it monetery, moral or other are traitors, they side with the enemy and in this case it's an enemy who wants to annihilate the Jews.
What do you mean with supporting the local Arabs on the street? You go to the local Arabs on the street and ask them to tell you what they would like to do with the Jews in Israel.
Why doesn't she support her brothers and sisters who are continuously fighting for survival?

And those who bless you, shall be blessed....And those who curse you shall be cursed.
When the chofetz chaim heard thunder, he hasked : Voos vilt de Tattelleh in himmel? (what does the Father in Heaven want?)
Ms Emily, when you get your eye poked out at an anti-semitic "activist" fest (despite staying at a 'safe distance'), you should ask yourself the same question

The Torah does NOT say that we have to be 'dan l'chaf zchus' every Jew! Only those who are muchzak in doing good things, like a talmid chacham or tzadik, but not someone who has no chazakah.

Again, you put your politics before the Torah halacha. So she dances with arabs who hate us and she hates us, THAT DOESN'T MAKE THEM INTO "RODFIM". Stop blogging for a few minutes and go learn some torah. She is a tinukus, because her philosophies that she has, was acquired by being brought up in the goyishe world. Start having some pity on people that are Jewish, even if they don't follow your political view. She doesn't know better, but you should!
