New York - Metered spots near a Queens courthouse that should cost a few quarters per hour are being sold for as much as $20.
Arnold Diaz exposed this scam that you need to watch out for. It involves workers at a private parking lot across from the Queens County Supreme Court on Sutphin Boulevard, where parking costs up to $27 dollars a day.
But their scam involves selling metered spaces on the street that they have no right to sell. These are spaces badly needed by the public.

The entire parking situation at that courthouse is a racket. That lot only takes cash and charges about $20 for two hours of parking. Luckily another lot 2 blocks away for half the price is taking away all of their business.
The entire thing is a scam.

Where are all the camera-loving politicians? Where is Mr. Bloomberg? Even if they feed the meters all day, they may only park for the time limit posted on the sign. Unfortunately, the meter personnel who are supposed to be enforcing the law have IQ's just below those of the meters. We'd like to see a follow up on this story.

Instead of improving the bus and subway service, they are being eliminated. NYC is pushing out the middle class.

you are paying them to service your meter!
wouldnt YOU pay $20 not to have to run out every hour to feed the meter?? if you forget once, your ticket is MORE than $20......

the scam is that they "reserve"these spots and other people can't park there. these spots do not "belong" to them

it is against the law to feed the meter. one may only park for the maximum time allowed on each meter filling it once.

The problem isn't paying them to feed the meter, the problem is when they put cones out official cones (DOT etc) to "reserve" a spot.

So by all the street parking being used for all day parking, some poor shulb who wants to go to a store for 20 minutes now has to park in the lot and pay $15. That is what the problem is. Metered parking is generally not meant to be for all day parking. Oh, yeah, it is also called stealing what they are doing, but your ethics seem to think that is fine.
