Phoenix, AZ -Arizona Sen. John McCain has a message for illegal residents of his state: Go back where you came from.
McCain, who has been veering right to try and win his Republican Senate primary against conservative former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, said on Tuesday that he supports immigration reform that would deport those living in the country illegally.
“No amnesty. Many of them need to be sent back,” McCain said during an interview on KQTH-FM in Tucson, Ariz. when describing how he would deal with illegal U.S. residents.
McCain said he supported reform that would create a guest worker program, but was against any plan that would gave illegal immigrants a path to citizenship, according to Congressional newspaper The Hill.
“If we get the border secured, then a temporary legal worker program has to be part of it,” McCain said.
McCain’s statements come just weeks before Arizona’s controversial immigration law kicks in on July 29.
The legislation, which has sparked protests by civil rights and religious groups, mandates that immigrants carry documentation of their status. It also requires police to question people about their immigration status if the cops have “reasonable suspicion.”

The Justice Department is likely to file a lawsuit against Arizona for its controversial law on Tuesday, the Daily News has confirmed.

The senator stressed that the guest worker program would be temporary.

“Part of any reform has to be a legal, temporary worker program that is truly temporary,” McCain “Employers who employ people who are here illegally [should be] prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

John, all of a sudden you are becoming a Conservative. Could it be that you have realized that this country does not want illegal aliens in the country and you are afraid of losing your precious seat in the Senate. Too late John. Go J.D. Hayworth.

What's so terrible about it? I agree he'd have made a lousy president, but not nearly as bad as the thug who's in office now!

About time this was said. Why should this select group of aliens get a special path to citizenship that people from other countries (who are more than qualified) fight tooth and nail to get. For some reason the think that they are better than everyone else and they don't need to go through the process that all other foreigners have through.

Its sort of tragic....McCain grows more senile every day while Palin actually shows some latent signs of intelligence...maybe its a zero sum game when it comes to the Republicans

The guest worker program is a non-starter, and McCain knows it. In addition, in such a program the kids of the guest workers would be US citizens who could eventually petition for their parents to become immigrants. Any solution to the illegal immigration "problem" must include huge increases in legal immigration quotas from Mexico, the Phillippines, China, and India. McCain is desparate and is abandoning his principles right and left.

What are you saying, Milhouse?? McCain and Palin would have been better for yiddin than Obama and Biden ?? What nareahkeit. Obama today reaffirme his support for EY and indicated a willingness to allow Israel to keep large portions of the west bank and most of Jeruselam in any final peace settlement.

He's right about this. But it's kinda ironic for him to be saying this considering he cosponsored the McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill.

Stop pretending you don't know that Obama was a CLOSE PERSONAL FRIEND of top-ranking PLO members and terrorists. He and his wife would have Edward Said and Rashid Khalidi and their families over for dinner, and they'd babysit each other's kids. His political mentor Bill Ayers, the man who made him what he is, is not only an unrepentant terrorist but also a leading member of the group that organised the recent flotilla. How does that all NOT add up to the conclusion that he hates Israel?

Palin, on the other hand, is a genuine supporter of Israel. Long before she had any part in national politics, or any need for Jewish donations or votes, she had an Israeli flag in her office. Alaskan Jews report that she's a true oheves yisroel.

This man has no shame. He will sell his soul for the scent of a pharthing. A man that can not be trusted. He will tell everyone what he thinks you want to hear for the moment and then do what he wants. his history only proves it. He should resign and let swomeone with FRESH IDEAS move into his office, but then he won't be able to be a bloodsucker anymore.

Here we have a clown who was the chief architect of the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act (CIRA S.2611) of 2006, who is now suddenly opposed to illegals? This must be some kind of joke. The very legislation he was proposing included such things as prohibiting state and local law enforcement officers from enforcing immigration violations, permanent residency for all illegal agriculture workers, and full citizenship for over 7 millions illegals who were in the country for more than 5 years. Mccain is getting really desperate.
