Des Moines - A billboard created by an Iowa tea party group comparing President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler and Vladimir Lenin is being condemned by other tea party activists.

The North Iowa Tea Party began displaying the sign in Mason City last week.

The sign includes photos of Obama, Nazi leader Hitler and communist leader Lenin with the statement: “Radical leaders prey on the fearful & naive.”

North Iowa Tea Party co-founder Bob Johnson says the sign highlights what the group argues is Obama’s support for socialism. He says the pictures might be overwhelming the intended message.

Shelby Blakely, a spokeswoman for the national Tea Party Patriots, says the sign isn’t appropriate. She says her group opposes any comparisons of Obama to Hitler or Lenin.

Where was all of this outrage when Bush was being compared to Hitler on what seemed like a daily basis by so called "main-stream" media and public groups? Just wondering cause it seems kinda like sour grapes now that the shoe is on the other foot.

This is a slam not only against the president but the whole United States. you may not like him, but he was duly elected and even if you dont agree with him and the party, you need to respect the fact that the majority of people in the country wanted him in there. Now, i think these people should have to apologize to the president and should be banned from such billboards. Dont give me freedom of speach either. That doesnt mean to slander and deface the government.

While there were groups who did compare Bush to Hitler, can you show me a "mainstream media" article that compared Bush to Hitler? I can't find one.

Maybe the left put it up so that you would think its coming from the right and vote left again.

I think it is stupidity. Billboard advertisements cost a mint. Total waste of money. The only reasonable explanation is that it is paid for by Obama lovers and democrats who are scared to loose the election in November, and are using reverse psycology to win your vote.

What a completely idiotic statement. The ignorance and brainwashed-robot behavior of you on the left is even more terrifying. There is so much hate on the part of race-baiting liberals it would make Pat Buchanan look like Mother Teresa. For crying out loud DON'T turn off Fox and Rush - it's your only shot at hearing the truth. I haven't heard one word of hate from either, neither did you, neither did anyone and they won't ever. And nobody gives a flying frog what color Obama's skin is. Only the loony left who keeps bringing it up. We tea party wackos simply don't like what hes doing to our country and to our children's future. And you know it - you are deliberately trying to mislead others. Oh wait we do hate - terrorists. Sorry for offending your progressive sensibilities.

Funny, I didn't see this as bothering you when so many of the liberal elite did this to President Bush. The facts are that the point of the billboard is absolutely correct. Ignorance by the electorate helped elect this person. The problem for Obama is that the electorate isn't as stupid as he & his far left socialist liberal democrat party thugs thought.

Again with the race card. This guy had every big white businessmen on his side they are leaving him now in droves, why? Because his polices and his anti-freedom/business/individual liberty etc. The only problem that I have with the billboard is that it creates a distraction from the real issues that are on hand

I'm not sure where you learned about freedom of speech but before Obama became president we had the right to call our elected officials all kinds of nasty names. I think Obama hasn't passed a law just yet prohibiting that kind of speech. Did you get as upset when they compared Goerge Bush to Hitler?

Um yes, it certainly does. That is what it means above all. The whole *point* of freedom of speech is that we can criticise the government in terms as harsh as we like, and feel completely secure that nothing will happen to us. If you don't understand that you don't belong in America.

Ignorance? Every survey shows that people on the right, and especially in the tea party movement, are MORE informed than those who still support the big 0.

Keith Ellison (a sitting US Congressman, a Democrat and a Muslim) did. And the media by and large didn't cover it, indicating that they did not consider it controversial or worthy of condemnation.

Why are all these people objecting to the comparison to Hitler and not to Lenin? Was Lenin less evil?!

Face it, Hitler was a human being, not some sort of shade (no, he did *not* have chicken feet!), and he had particular traits, most of which he shared with some other people. And it is perfectly legitimate to compare other people to him, when they share some of his traits. They don't have to match his record in every respect in order to be compared to him.

Comparing Obama to Lenin and Hitler may be a gross exaggeration, but it's legitimate political discourse. They do have a socialist philosophy in common. And coming after eight years in which one could not see a leftist demonstration without seeing Bush called "Bushitler" and "Chimpy", and in which no less a lefty bastion than Amnesty International compared Guantanamo Bay to the Gulag, this poster is not out of line.

To the point, I think it is outrageous that they are only upset about a comparison with Hitler. I guess Lenin is OK! Hmmm. To me this is a big gaff. And, apparently they are as out of touch as the Obamas are on what the US citizens believe. Lets break it down. Hitler was a socialist, period. NAZI was the nationalist sociaist party of Germany. Hitler took over the banks, the car industry, the oil and natural resources and even the health care. And, drum roll please! Now, what industries and businesses did Obama take over? Let me do my John Candy bit. I think I see a similarity here! The progressives want to repackage us, our country and our future. Not too hard when they are in essence the kids with the school newspaper with the media spouting communist ideas. I believe the errogance masks the raw evil of this bunch. I say defend the billboard and remember when they thought it was okay for a hack writer to make a book about killing the President when Bush was in office.
