Jerusalem – Charedim Protest Plasma Screen News Updates in Postal Branch [video]

Inside the postal station Photo: 24Jerusalem – A haredi riot broke out on Sunday in a postal branch in Jerusalem’s Bukharim neighborhood over Ynet news updates. A group of 25 ultra-Orthodox protested at the site over plasma screens showing Ynet news updates which they referred to as “abomination.” Several rioters even attacked security guards standing outside the branch.

The haredim are claiming that internet news updates shown in the branch are forbidden as they include “immodest materials.”

Postal employees were shut inside the branch while the rioters attempted to break in and destroy the plasma screens. One rioter told Ynet that they are demanding the updates be removed from the site which is located in what he described as a “haredi area.”

Two of the protestors managed to forcefully enter the branch, clashed with security guards, unplugged the electricity cables and were shortly thereafter arrested by police. Dozens of protestors from the Eda Haredit and Neturei Karta faction sprayed a grafitti on the branch’s windows reading “an end to immoral publications.”

The rioters also tore down a mail box and dropped it on the ground.

A postal employee told Ynet that the rioters hit several of the employees. When police officers left the site the protestors shouted out “Nazis” and “Zionists”, however no physical clashes were recorded.

Police are now trying to reach an agreement with Eda Haredit leaders who demanded the updates be removed and the two detainees be released. They threatened to impose a boycott of the Postal Company similar to the one maintained against the real-estate and construction company Electra for its involvement in the Andromeda construction project in Jaffa.

Israel Postal Company said in response that the incident is an isolated affair which they are trying to resolve quickly in order to resume service for local residents. “The Ynet updates that were shown did not include any offensive materials and therefore it is unclear why the commotion started.

Nevertheless, we are hoping that the good relations with the residents will be maintained,” it was stated.

It was further stated that the Postal Company would withdraw its police complaint against the rioters.

What a kiddush hashem. Acts like this are sure to hasten the coming of Moshiach and the rebuilding of the Bais Hamikdash so we can have a Sandendrin that will give these rioting idiots Malkus for their sickening behavior.

If that’s the preference of the neighborhood, then why keep on forcing it on them! They dont want anything from the internet, and nothing obscene. just take the plasma off and done with it. why do we always have to stir up trouble when there is none.

If they insist on comparing the brave and restrained police forces of Israel to the nazis, then the eda haredit and their hooligans are the SA — manufacturing phony slights and threats to incite their mobs of black-hatted thugs to create mayhem and destruction and worse.

if they dont like the tv monitors in the nationally run post office, they dont have to use the post office! let them protest and boycott the post office. if they want to ship anything, they can call UPS or other private couriers, who will be more than glad to pick it up from wherever thehy want.

I am a little perplexed I am a frum Jew. I wear a black hat shabbos and I come from a Chasidishe background. Does that make me a Chareidi? Are people like me, good normal frum yidden being lumped into this new title Chareidi? In israel it used to Be Chareidi and chiloni? I am concerned because of a few lunatic chasidic fring groups that instead of achdus and ahavas yisroel we are mamash causing more hatred which is exactly why the beis hamikdash was destroyed. Do these hooligans think that they can accomplish more with hate then with love. If you want to be mekarev yidden it can only be done with love and understanding. I dont for one second believe that they put up the internet news with the intent to antagonize the Chasidishe community that is protesting. things have gotten way out of control. Just like the Rabonim in Eretz yisroel can tell us in America what to do! Why dont the Rabonim in the US start opening their mouths with regards to this constant chilul hashem. Spilling Acid on Women, spitting on women, Calling people Nazi’s etc.

Right down the block from them stood the beis hamikdash… pathetic

If they don’t like it, don’t go to the post office. But I think they are more worried about the members of their community who go there to watch Ynet and they don’t like that because they want to keep their members in the stone age so they can control them better. This is all about controlling the oylom. The aiberster gave us eye lids to control what we watch that’s what they should teach their followers, obviously there are some issues with the shmiras enayim and tayves department in these communities but I think its about power they want to keep everyone in the stone age.

Be certain that these screens did not appear as a community service, but rather because the Postal Company received a fee for the privilege of locating them. The screens probably carry ads as well as news content, and the postal customers are the targeted eyeballs.

Rioting is criminal, dangerous and a real problem in Israel now, but I don’t understand why these screens had to be placed at all.

In my opinion this whole issue is wider then just a riot here and a riot there; we live in trying times there is a growing identity crises within Charidy circles, ones upon a time we had Charidy vs Chilony, and within the orthodox community we mainly had an ultra orthodox faction and a modern orthodox one. Nowadays the ultra orthodox faction, (and especially Chasidim), is increasingly divided into two wings, there is the ultra orthodox and then there is the more moderate Chasidim who are not properly recognised and even less represented. The ultra orthodox are becoming more and more angry blaming everyone for -what they see as a tragic phenomenon- the mass ‘moderatesation’ or modernisation of frum Jewry. The Moderate Chasidim, (and I believe that a majority of the regular posters here on VIN belong to them.) are frustrated and increasingly confused about the situation. This issue is sitting on a time bomb and the sooner we come to terms with it the better. The Rabbonim are mostly part of the Ultra orthodox and although they are our supreme and ultimate leaders we need to find a proper platform to serve our interest. I hope my fellow moderate VIN posters will add their own opinions

Would these secular Israelis have the indecency and chutzpah to come foist upon other religious people for example Moslems their indecent garbage? It is the secular that are not acting civily and instigating the Chareidim to take strong measures to defend their neighborhoods from being assaulted with immodest crap.

Leave these neighborhoods alone. Nobody has a right to force these neighborhoods and the people who live in them to change their religious character and flavor.

It’s all about the Halacha! There is no place in the Shulchan Aruch that allows for such hoologanism. These charedi dressed fanatics make up their up own halachos and thus form a heretical movement.

a lot of nonfrum people see this and hold that this is crazy charedim from the edah but a lot of frum jews upset by this goyishe behavior have had to not mail their mail or cash checks becasue the goyishe zionist post office is brainwsahsing them with ttumah all the boychicks learing in yeshiva should not have to see tumah when they go to mail letters if you learn all week holy subjects just seeing a little tumah cant take from teh learing all week the abishter should yerachem all the putahs of clal yisrael so they dont have to see this tumah and we be zocheh to mashiach tzidkenu another thing is that in tel aviv with the chilonim people should know that this is ok we dont have problem with the goyim in tel aviv looking at this shmutz but we dont want to see women in crotchless when we go to mail to letter. we should all have achdus and the whole clal yisrael should get along and then we wont have any more trouble.

    Foolish VIN Readers:
This tiny Post Office is in the heart of Meah Sharim down the block from the Bucharan Yeshivot and Holy Musayif Bet Kenesset. It is in the MOST traditional area for Yirei Shamayim. This is not downtown Yerushalayim and Ben Yehuda Street.

The demonstrators are not from the edah hachareidit. They are called “sikrikim” they are the militant branch of the neturi karta. They are the same ones responsible for stoning Eli Yishai, Gafni as well as numerous other chareidi public personality. They accept zero authority from any living litvish, chassidish or yerushalmi rabbi. They are a big headache on the edah hachareidits head. It is extremely unfair to show this video and article and brand them as chareidim. They are really a sect on their own, a militant branch of some extreme NK fringe group.
Everyone in the chareidi world distanced themselved from these lunatics and there demonstration today.

Looks like these types shoot first and aim second. I guess it would never dawn on them to approach the branch manager and have a civil discussion about this or any other matter that they have a problem with. The lack of civility we are seeing especially in EY of late is the avla of our dor. Resorting to calling another Jew by a name that until now had been reserved for the most reviled nation in Jewish History is obvious evidence that they have no capacity to discern good from true evil.

It is past time for the Israeli government to arrest the violent protesters. Long jail times would be appropriate.
