Manhattan, NY - A bigot was busted after he scattered papers scrawled with anti- Semetic threats outside the Jewish Guild for the Blind on the Upper West Side, police said.

In a bizarre act of hatred, Dimitrios Apolonides, 37 left several small pieces of paper that said “Kill Jews” on the street and sidewalk outside the guild on West 65th Street near Central Park West, cops said.

Police arrested him after he admitted the strange act, and charged him with harassment, authorities said.

Is it just possible that we bring some of this behavior on ourselves by forgetting that places like Flatbush, Borough Park and the Upper West Side are still golus? I am annoyed by the arrogance of some organizations who do wonderful work but nonetheless regularly post placards on lightpoles announcing various events and/or rabbinc decisions IN VIOLATION OF A WELL-KNOWN NYC ORDINANCE? Haven't they heard of a mitzvah ha-boh b-aveiroh? Is the necessity to have a big crowd at a particular shi'ur a justification for a possible fine and a terrible Chilul Ha-Shem? What gives these organizations the idea that a) Flatbush is Bnei Braq and b) longstanding rabbinic concerns about aivoh arent' applicable to them? Would they feel better if an irreligious Jew or non-Jew called the police to complain and they were fined in a way that the secular media covered it? We need collectively to act with more seichel, especially in these troubled times. Anti-Semites have a more difficult time taking shots at us if the target is harder to find.

Professor,
you seem to forget that as long as Bnei Brak is under the government of Anti-religious Zionist Kofrim, Bnei Brak is golus as well.

It doesn't matter what government is in Bnei Brak; it would be in golus even if the government were tzadikim gemurim. We're in golus until Moshiach comes, no matter where in the word we are, or what sort of government we have.

Why do you always go away from the case in point? However, on your post, why doesn't the city provide public bulletin boards where people can legally post bills, like in every major city in the world, rather than on lamp posts and on construction site fences? which by the way besides being an eye sore, is also real geneivah to deface peoples private property just because it is not authority enforceable and punishable by fines. Would any of these organizations like it if one plastered their mosad building with posters, why do it to others?

Reply to #5 - Who's talking politics? Not me. I'm talking about plastering walls, light poles, and any other handy surface with posters, signs, etc. By doing these things, we raise our profile and become inviting targets to those with an agenda. It really would behoove you to learn how to read carefully before you go off on your nonsensical political tangents. Nor does it beehove you to call a legally elected government, most of whom are Shomer Shabbos, kofrim. Haven't you absorbed anything during the past 3 weeks?

Greeks always hated Jews. First pogrom in Russian Empire in 1880's were started by Greeks in Odessa. Yasir Arafat's wife is of a Greek descent, I believe. Greece is always against Israel in the international politics...

Yasir Arafat's wife is not of a Greek descent. She was born in the West Bank in 1963 into a Christian (Greek Orthodox branch of Christianity) family.

"malchus shel chesed " - chesed to who? When a black professor at Columbia University found some piece of rope on her school office door handle, they called FBI to investigate for blatant racist crime. Here, murders of Jews were instigated, and no meaningful investigation was done. The Jew hating Greek kept on doing it in broad daylight perhaps over a year. He was finally caught, but by chance only. And now they charge him with harassment - a misdemeanor - not even a hate crime.

There is a huge Communist Culture in Greece. Most of the productive ambitious Greeks have moved to the USA. Only the meshugas remain in Greece to riot. Ok apprarently this Meshugah did come to NY. Welcome to the club. At least the Police caught him and now they can investigate him to see who his associates are. Hopefully he is not associated with a group of crazies.

this is one Greek, not the pro-Israel government of Greece. do not blame a society for one person's actions. we of all people should know this.

And what has that got to do with this? It certainly does allow antisemitism.

For it to be a hate crime it must first be a crime. What crime was committed here? Littering?! And yes, the exact same thing would happen if it the person were anti-black instead of anti-Jewish; racism is not a crime and is protected by the first amendment.

Why would you have thought that? Greeks are our oldest enemies. They have over 2000 years of antisemitism in their culture.
