Brooklyn, NY - A petty crook was caught red-handed thanks to a tip from a member of Flatbush Shomrim civilian crime patrol, authorities said.

The volunteer called 911 after spotting Dimitry Kolker, 21, climbing the rear passenger-side window of a 1993 GMC Suburban SUV parked at East 14th Street and Avenue “M” in Midwood, officials say.

Cops caught Kolker in the vehicle, and found a bag of marijuana in his pocket, sources said.

He was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, attempted petit larceny and drug possession, said a spokesman for DA Charles Hynes.

"Petit larceny"? What does that mean? That he's a small thief? Or that he was trying to steal the now-injured pitcher for the New York Yankees?

sure anyone could have seen the thief, but they didn't for the same reason you didn't and that's because you were sound asleep instead of keeping an eye on your neighborhood. Kudos to shomrim for being there 24/7.

Such kavod for making a call to 911? I have called 911 on several occasions which also resulted in crimminals being apprehended, it's something everyone should do without expecting a big deal to be made about it.
