A representative of Ireland’s Jewish community said the creation of the page, titled the invasion of Jews in Midleton, was “horrific” and “very sad”.

The page appeared on the popular social networking site after the “freaky” arrival of large numbers of strictly Orthodox Satmar Jews for a holiday in the small town of Midleton, near Cork.

    Facebook page set up here

The creator invited people to join “if you have escaped being captured by the jews in midleton in the last few days. :)” and warned readers to “be carful [sic] of their teeth! :O.”

In what could be seen as reference to the Nazi gas chambers, one person wrote: “Apparently they were originally meant to stay in Killarney…but they refused to go through Ovens”.

Ovens is also the name of a nearby town.

Another wrote: “one of them was planning to steal our bikes the other day so she could cycle to the beach with her 8 kids” while one fan added: “Whoever made this is an absolute legend.”

Fred Rosehill, the chairman of the trustees of Cork’s Jewish community, said he was very upset.

“The strictly Orthodox dress brings attention of course, but it doesn’t warrant this.

“There is no reason to accept any form of antisemitism.”

He added: “The reference to Ovens is quite startling

Mr Rosehill emphasised that such an incident was very unusual in Cork, adding that a visit by an Israeli group this week to the area had prompted no problems.

While he blamed “teenagers being a bit stupid” he said: “It does worry me for the community in Cork”.

The Cork Jewish community was founded in 1880 but only a few families remain, although regular services are still held.

Facebook has been hijacked by people trying to spread antisemitic messages several times before. Last month a group advertising the Auschwitz spa was closed down after complaints.

Last week the Independent columnist Christina Patterson provoked anger for a piece on life in Stamford Hill in which she wrote: “I didn’t realise that goyim were about as welcome in the Hasidic Jewish shops as Martin Luther King at a Klu Klux Klan convention.”

tens of thousands of Irish fought and died in WWII for the Allies. Their govt did not because of lingering bitterness over the British occupation. Also, Irish soldiers serve in south Lebanon, ostensibly guarding the border of Israel.
Irish Protestants in Ulster love Israel but many Catholics seem to think that they are the Palestinians of Europe. very sad and untrue.
this is just kids being dumb and having culture shock.

face book would never allow this to be said about a moslem it would start a riot but we accept anything they say and we invest into their business even if they print the most anti semitic material similar to what the germans did in the 30’s

It’s the same mentality as with the mosque at Ground Zero. The liberals and PC crowd, at the forefront of which now stands the “Honourable” Mayor Mike Bloomberg. Fear. (of the muslims.) And lack of principle. And backbone. When the subject is taking insults, or reacting to them forcefully, the choice is to “Turn The Other Cheek”. When it’s those murderers and terrorists who are ostensibly insulted, we tend to stick up for their “Equal Rights”. When it is they, who would, nay, actually do take a way our civil rights. When someone is dead or maimed for life, Civil Rights don’t do him any good.

Ireland secretly supported the Allies in WW2. The country has no real history of anti-Semitism. Cork and Dublin have had Jewish mayors.

Every time some teenage nuts anywhere engage in a stupid anti-semitic prank, we immediately see all these posts tracking WW II alliances and sympathy for and with the Nazis. Grow up. There is more risk to yidden among our “friends” on the Christan right here in the U.S. than in all of Ireland.

Sadly the IRA, Sinn Fein, and radical elements of the Catholic Church of Ireland have traditionally spread hatred of Israel and Jews and aligned with the PLO, Hamas and Hezbollah. I have read that the IRA’s traditional support of Palestinian terror has not lessened despite the peace accords signed with Great Britain. How sad. A new generation of Europeans are being corrupted by anti-semitism in general and now anti-Satmar Chassidim, who ironically, are known anti-zionists. Let’s hope the Irish moral authorities will stand up against this anti-semitism before it hurts us all.

I love Ireland! People shouldn’t label an entire country by the action of a few dumb teens. There are haters in every country. And #9 , the IRA is from Northern Ireland, a different country.

    #10 and #12 ,

The IRA and Sinn Fein used to be powerful in the Irish Republic. But Eamon de Valera brutally suppressed them in the 1940s when they tilted towards the Nazis. He set up special courts for secret trials of suspected terrorists and saboteurs. Since then, Sinn Fein has had almost no following at all in the Irish Republic.

    #9,

Almost every Christian missionary targeting our people is from the Christian Right! Their latest stunt was to put up a deceptive display at at a bus shelter directly in front of a Judaica store in Manhattan. These people are dangerous!
