“The President is obviously a — is Christian,” Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton said. “He prays every day. He communicates with his religious advisor every single day. There’s a group of pastors that he takes counsel from on a regular basis. And his faith is very important to him, but it’s not something that is a topic of conversation every single day.”

Asked why people believe despite this that Mr. Obama is a Muslim, Burton responded, “I just think people are focused on other issues and not paying all that much attention to exactly what the President does with his spirituality. But as you all know and have covered extensively, he is Christian and his faith is very important to him.”

A reporter asked if the president might want to “speak more about his religion to counter this perception that he isn’t Christian.”

“He has talked about his faith in the past,” the reporter said. “Could the White House have him come out and talk about it more?”

“He has spoken about his faith extensively in the past,” Burton replied. “You can bet that he’ll talk about his faith again. You could always play the ‘would-of, could-of, should-of,’ but the President’s top priority here isn’t making sure that Americans know what a devout Christian he is, it’s making sure that we’re getting the economy on track and we’re creating jobs in this country.”

The Pew poll showed that nearly one in five Americans believe that President Obama is a Muslim. The percentage that correctly identifies him as Christian has fallen to just 34 percent, while 43 percent say they don’t know what his religion is – an increase of nine points from last year.

Burton made the comments aboard Air Force One on route to Martha’s Vineyard, where the first family is beginning a ten-day vacation.

Asked about the president’s planned workload, Burton responded, “Well, he’ll continue to get his intelligence briefings, and he’ll also be getting briefings on the economy and other issues as they come up. But as any of you guys who have covered these vacations before know, there’s other things that come up and he’ll obviously attend to those as necessary.”

Who cares how or to whom he davens. He is the president of the U.S. not the chief rabbi of Chicago. Stuff like this is why intelligent americans have to take a deep breath, count to 10 and remind themselves that the cable news shows and talk radio have to fill the airwaves 24×7.

The “rant-weilers” of the right who have come out in droves from their bar stools and basements are a disgrace to the conservative cause. It remains the stupid economy stupid. I’m also tired of Jews calling Obama Satan when Israel is doing such a good job of beating up settlers, and beating down Rabbis, allowing unlimited abortions and crying if anyone in the U.S. complains.

Seems like they are trying way too hard to convince the American public that Obama is a Christian. As The question is what is this sudden desperation on Obama’s part and why do people even care.

There is a serious error in the article and the first few comments. No one should care about his prayers. I care about his values – the ones he imposes on me, an American citizen. And they stink. They take the “political correctness” to illogical heights, where talking nice to terrorists is somehow a good thing. They take the true need for health care reform and create socialized medicine. They take honesty, and relegate it to a historical figment, found nowhere in current politics. They take foreign policy and convert it into the creation of task forces, comprised of people with little qualification, except hating USA. They place politics before everything, and make control and power for the president and his party more important than the future of America.

Do we care about those Yidden who violated laws and went to jail – how much did they daven, or do they still daven? True spirituality is found in the times outside of prayer – when someone goes through the day – is there a trace of the Shechina? Finding a moment for G-d only matters if there is an impression that lasts the rest of the time. It’s called “Shivisi Hashem linegdi somid”.

Have always felt in my heart the messiah is a closet Muslim. He did away with prayer day, was taught the Koran as a child with his family in kenya. You did not contradict your father, and once a Muslim, always.

There certainly is a suspicion on his religious beliefs, and rightfully so. Firstly, he was raised a Muslim in an extremely Muslim country. Both father and step-father were Muslims. That being said, when he comes to America, and then has political aspirations, he is fully aware that a openly practicing Muslim didn’t have much of a chance at high political office. So, he finds a Christian church which adheres to a the black theology premise. Meaning to say, anti-American, anti-Semitic, but not Muslim. Either way, Muslim or black theology, these “religions” are not either favor of the American way of life. We, as Jews, and all Americans for that matter place a certain amount of importance on how a person relates to the Almighty, and how this relates to dealing with all peoples that make up our great country. It is obvious that neither one of these movements is one that is suited to the best interests of America and Americans.
